    My Trip Report

Friday afternoon at 4:30pm, AllNetMom (ANM) says to me, "Lets go to Reno." We can't just up and go to Reno. "Yes we can, I need to get out of here, lets go to Reno." The kids need to do stuff. "Nope, nothing this weekend, lets go to Reno." Umm... OK. Lets go to Reno!.

So ANM contacts our host and she sets us up in a Sienna Suite. Was the only thing available due to some Big Horn Sheep Convention. We pack, get the kids settled with food, transporation and supervision (it's nice having three kids over 21) and hit the road about 6:30pm. Traffic sucks.

About 11:00pm we roll into The Peppermill, go to VIP and picked up our room keys, up to our room for the obligatory bourbon, then head down to the casino floor. Got to the bottom of the elevator, and ANM realizes she doesn't have her cards (ID, ATM, Slot Club) so she runs back up while I wait... and wait... apparently she was bartending in the hallway, but that is her story.

We started right off losing, with great skill, at $1 JOB. Around 12:30am we swiped our cards for the 6x comp day, and continued playing until ~ 1:30am. Initial pain, down $800. Went back to the room and ordered Room service, which showed up in about 20 minutes. I had the steak sandwich which was pretty good. Still hot, tender and juicy, even though it was medium well done. Started watching Thor, which was not so good, and I fell asleep around 3:00am. I don't know how it ends, no spoilers please.

I woke early on Saturday, didn't want to wake ANM so I showered and went down for some coffee. Need to do something while I drink my coffee. By 9:00am I was down another $400, and on my second beer. Decided to switch to DDB. If I'm going to lose anyway, might as well be DDB. ANM texts that she is on her way down and BAM, I hit two small quads before she gets there. Look hun, I won a 100 dollars while you were sleeping. :peace: Unfortunately, those were the last quads I would see for a long, long time.

We played for 3 or 4 hours. She was breaking even with JOB, I was losing badly while alternating between JOB and DDB. Then we went to lunch at Biscottis. I had a crab melt. Lots of crab, not too much cheese, and the sourdough was toasty and crunchy without being hard or tough. Was Very Good.

Went for some more punishment. I maybe got a quad somewhere in there, but was getting pretty frustrated. Trust the math. Can't win if you don't play. F*%$ this game. Got tired and decided to go back to the room and take a quick nap around 3:30pm. ANM wakes me up at 6:00pm. We go down to play, and I notice something isn't quite right with ANM. Crazy mistakes she's making. So we decide to get something to eat, and she looks drunk to me, which is odd because I didn't think she was drinking all that much. I suggest that we go back to the room and get Room Service again, she's weaving the whole way. Long story short, turns out there is a certain time of the month when women are more prone to dehydration. The perils of being spontaneous. So we spend the rest of the evening in the hotel room. She falls asleep around 8:00, wakes up when the food arrives. I watched Last Vegas. Loved it. She fell back to sleep half way through. Food was and Asian appetizer (Very good), Fried shrimp (A little dry, but tasty) w/ Peppermill Salad (good), French Onion soup (too Salty), Cobb Salad (OK. About what I could make from the fridge right now), Hot Fudge Sundae (Excellent. Their Ice Cream is Amazing) and New York Style Cheese Cake (Very Good). Lights out around 11:30 for me.

Total Damage at this point, down $2,700.

Woke Sunday morning around 8:45. Showered and woke ANM. Packed up and checked out, then hit the casino. It was brutal. Her on JOB me on DDB. No quads all day long. Lose, Lose, Lose. About 3:00pm we are down a total of about $5,500. :faint: "We should go," she says. "Lets play a hundred at a time till we both lose," I say. Been doing that all day.

The clouds part and a single shaft of light illuminates me. 2's with a 4... Aces with a 3... :nworthy: "We're coming back, lets keep playing." "It's 4:00. We have to go. NOW." :nono: So we left. BTW, we didn't eat all day. Picked up some Burger King on the way out.

In the end, the room was nice, though it breaks my rule against entering the bedroom first. I'm OK with that given the short notice. The food was for the most part good to excellent. Room was pre-comped. Food was Xpress comped. In the end, lost $3K on $70K of play. Could have been worse :rolleyes2:

At least you came back a bit!! Sounds like quite a rough time before that though.

And glad your wife recovered from the dehydration. In Vegas I'm definitely drinking all types of liquid. Probably too much of it is the alcohol variety though...:evillaugh

Her comeback from the dehydration was a greater relief than the partial monetary comeback for sure. Rest and fluids did her good. We can get so focused when playing VP, and the hours just fly by. At least on Sunday we weren't drinking alcohol (never do on checkout day), but then we forgot to eat!

SO, yeah I was kinda joking when I asked AnD if he wanted to go to Reno, but we lucked out, the stars aligned, we got a reservation through our host, and off we went. For some reason the 4 hour car ride from the Bay Area always feels incredibly long on the way up, and very short coming home.

When we first arrived, there was a couple standing in the hall. We unpacked and checked out the room and had a bourbon. When we came out to play the lady was STILL in the hallway but now on the phone talking to the front desk. "we are still waiting here...it has been 20 minutes"

Turns out they hadn't gotten the room they wanted and were moved and were told someone would be right up to let them in and bring them all their stuff. They were in limbo.

We got downstairs and I had forgotten my players card in the room. So up I went. As I passed the now exhausted and frazzled couple I offered them a bourbon, they accepted and we talked as I doled out the goods. I considered it my Good Samaritan for the night.

Sorry AnD had to wait, but it had to be done.

We sucked this weekend. Actually, I treaded water on JOB for a while. I would play my 100 for a while, look up, and AnD would be putting in his 3rd. Crazy nothing hands. Sunday it hit the both of us. It feels like a switch goes off. I mean, I think I went 6 hours with no quads.

On Saturday, I was drinking a bit --actually well below my normal limit-- but it hit me hard. I have only vague fuzzy memories of that evening. I woke up at 3 AM feeling parched and drank every fluid in the room and a 5.00 Gatorade from the "refreshment center" and about a quart of water. Fortunately I woke up feeling fine in the AM.

Sunday was lose lose lose...and I never got to play craps, because I usually play when we are up....and we were never up. The final brilliant hits by AnD were a huge help to offset our losses.

We are going back in late February for my sisters birthday...Can't wait! But lets hope our Quads get back in gear by then. I promise to drink a ton of water.

Actually, reno is so dead you can always get a room (unless it's Rib CookOff or HotAugust Nights; or some other freakishly large convention is booked at that particular hotel)
Also...I always thought the contrary (ride up was short/ride home LONG; however I guess going every weekend for 5 years'll do that, lol)

Yikes! I hate those trips when you can't get a quad no matter what you try. It's strange because I just returned from a trip to Caesar's Windsor where I got lots of quads. Not an obscene amount, but plenty to keep me ahead for the trip. Perhaps that was payback for the cold weather we had. Sorry for your rotten luck. But thanks for the trip report. Perhaps the next trip will bring you a royal or two.

I'm kinda picky about rooms, and I'm willing to pay for an upgrade, but unfortunately the best room available was a Sienna Suite. It's a fine room, but ticks one of my peeves (open the door: bed). The room was on the 17th Floor, had a very pretty view, and was in the Tuscany Tower, which is very nice.

Who knew there were so many people into sheep.
