I have seen posts for years about Red Rock but largely not red them. Red Rock Canyon is a national park but I assume that most people in the Forum are going to a Red Rock Casino; am I correct? I guess you can get there by bus and I assume it is to a casino. Once there can you get to the park without a car? I am not really interested in just going to a RR casino to say I'd been there, so is there anything special to see at the casino(s). Is it possible to make a day trip of the area; can you get around other than the casino's.

There is a lot of results in search but most are not relevant and just contain the words RR. Can someone sum up what I may find interesting to see and/or do if I take the bus out there? Thanks!

I am not sure if you can pick up a bus from the casino to the park. The last time I visited there was some newer residential but probably not enough to demand bus service. Unless you intend to do some major hiking or intend to rent a bike there, you kinda need a car to tour the canyon or book a tour from the strip. As for RR Casino, it is lovely but at the end of the day, it's a full featured locals casino. No tourists attractions. It's a pleasant place to gamble, though, and usually we cap a drive around Red Rock with a gaming session. We've never stayed long enough to eat there so I can't comment on the restaurants.

No, the park is several miles, uphill from RR Casino. The park itself is huge, and unless you are really into hiking, you need a car to visit there. Even with a car, it will take you a minimum of an hour to tour the park.

On a future trip, when you have access to a car, it makes a nice day trip to tour the park, and then spend a few hours at Red Rock Casino....just don't eat their buffet, no matter how cheap it is!

    Definitely need a car!

As mentioned already you definitely need a car; but, it is fabulous with just a car and no or minimal hiking.

We went out to Valley of Fire this past week. We did Red Rock in April. My brother and I both thought Valley Of Fire was a better trip to make. So, if you haven't been, theres another lump of cole in the fire to consider.

Red Rock Canyon is a very beautiful place and it's well worth seeing if you have a car. If you don't, I've seen scooter tours of the park and there are a couple exotic car experiences that drive through there. The image in my avatar (and the banner for my blog) were taken from the passenger seat while driving through the park.

Don't they have concerts at Red Rock once in a while or am I thinking of somewhere else?

+1 After seeing the Valley of Fire, Red Rock Canyon just isn't nearly as impressive.

Yes, and you haven't seen a Dead concert until you've seen one at Red Rock. lol

Comparisons between VoF and RRC are as subjective as anything else involving personal selections from two options. Both largely are experienced in typical American "industrial tourism" fashion -- from the car, hopefully at less than interstate speed. Viewed in passing, VoF might just "win." Then again, when the Spring Mountains are capped in snow ...

Red Rock Canyon -- a national conservation area -- is a climbers' and hikers' dream. VoF is a great place to scramble. It's also far smaller with no upcountry options.

We enjoy both. And either or both more than warrant a rental car and a day away from the casino.

Agreed. BTW, just because that photo was taken from the car doesn't mean I never got out of it. :poke:

I hiked some of the Red Rock Canyon trails just this past August, great time. I'd consider myself a novice hiker for sure. If you are looking to do something different (as I do every trip out to Las Vegas) this should certainly be on your list.
