Some of the guys i work with take a trip to Vegas every October. We arrive late Friday night so we can get up early and sit in the sportsbook all day Saturday gambling/watching college ball. Sunday is also spent in the sportsbook for NFL football, Monday is usually golf or gamble (if funds are still available) in preparation for Monday night football.

I have been to Vegas many times and enjoy staying on the strip if i have my wife with me or other people who are not Vegas veterans. However, i am also smart enough to realize the resorts on the strip are not built by offering cheap games, drinks, rooms, etc. Our guys trip is about finding cheaper games, drinks, food and lodging and watching football. We have stayed at Ballys as we really like the sportsbook for watching games. They usually have decent beer specials (strip value decent), however, like any strip resort aren't very generous when it comes to drink tickets and table games on the strip are not great either.

Last year we changed things up and stayed at Sams town and really enjoyed the trip. Prior to last years trip we have taken a cab out to ST for a day for friendly dealers, great gaming value and everything else associated with off strip casinos. I am not a high roller by any stretch but love playing BJ, craps and VP. I have learned over the years to look for the quality games which will maximize by small bankroll.

I wanted to get other members thoughts on other off-strip resorts that may be a good fit for our trip. I was thinking maybe this year checking into LVH (some new folks going that are not Vegas veterans but this closer to the strip), east side cannery, downtown (not great sports books) or any other advice members may have. Thanks in advance.

I suggest the Hard Rock. The rooms are underrated and the restaurant line up is decent. I think comps are easy to come by. People watching is good. I haven't stayed since Cantor took over the sports book. Nearby places include the HofbrÀuhaus, Double Down Saloon, and Club Paradise (assuming it hasn't been shut down as rumored in paperposter's post).

Thanks spicole, i have not been in the hard rock in years but it is definitely a fun atmosphere. As a matter of fact i think the last time i was there Hugh Hefner and his "girlfriends" were filming an episode of girls next door. I'm guessing that was probably 2006 or 2007. I have made a couple of trips to the Hofbrauhaus and had a great time. Thanks for the input.
