    It's cold high up wherever you go. Last winter, I think all 50 states had at least some snow at one point.

    I did see that article last year! We're about to get a nice dumping for Christmas here at Lake Tahoe!

    I'ts actually not uncommon to have snow on the big island. But....not too many places on this planet has snow on the mountain and lava flowing and within feet of burning down a town at the same time! How ironic.

    Yeah, it's more about altitude than anything else. Snow at the high elevations in Hawaii is no big deal - but for some reason the media occasionally seizes upon it like it's miraculous when it happens.

    Yes, it gives the impression that people in Hawaii are bundled up and trudging in snow! Nothing is farther from the truth. It can be a full blown blizzard up there but for all of us here it's just warm sunshine, blue skies, rainbows, and white sandy beaches.....

    My first time to mount charleston was during the first couple days in may. We left the strip @80 degrees and lunch up in the snow at the lodge.

    Amazing @ 1 hr away.
