Headed out Vegas on the first weekend of February. Rates were very high all around and I couldnt for the life of me figure out what was causing them to be so high. The point of the trip was to catch a concert at the Hard Rock that weekend, Eagles of Death Metal @ Wasted Space. I'll be short on travel since that part is boring. However the $139 roundtrip rate from Manchester NH to Las Vegas is not!! I bought through the United Website however I managed to be put on US Air flights the whole way (minus the last connection on the way back). I obviously had to sit through some long connections but oh well. Got to Vegas on time Friday night and picked up the rental car from Alamo.. Thanks to rental codes and BJ's wholesale club i got a economy car (same 2 seater pontiac i got last time) for $72 (including all taxes and stuff). Smooth pick up. Hit IN and Out on maryland parkway first thing.. then hit Von's on Tropicana for some supplies, drinks, snacks, toiletries, etc.. most important was the palate for bottled water for $3.99! Big money saver, not to mention having some food and drinks in the room are a god send. Off to Ballys! Got the special Harrahs' promotion that was posted on this site, So i booked 3 nights at Bally's for $179 total. Good deal! Check in line was very short and i slipped the clerk a $20 and got upgraded to a Junior Sweet in the south tower (i think, the one that's farther from the strip). I was psyched because i don't really care about the view, but we did get put on the 7th floor. Bally's was packed that weekend so I was grateful for a nice room. Picked up the GF from the airport (she had a later flight) and headed back to Bally's and decided to play some Video Poker. Sat at the bar near the Keno area, the drinks where fast and the bartender was friendly. I ended up losing everything i put in, but the gf did good and was up after. I tried my luck at some keno, but no luck. At that point it was really late and we had been traveling all day so we called it a night. Woke up early the next day (damn jetlag) and was very hungry.. Attempted to hit Bally's coffee shop but the lane was VERY long. So instead got the car from the Valet and hit up the Main Street Station brunch buffet. As usual it was a great meal, can't beat the food and stuff for $10.99 each. After, walked around the MSS, hit a few machines for a while, lost it fairly quick. Tried my hand at roulette, again no luck - another $20 down the drain. It was pouring out, not very good for walking around, but we used the walkway to hit up the Cal, lost a few bucks on some 50 play video poker over there, and decided to get back in the car. Drove down Maryland parkway and hit a few local thrift stores I aways seem to stop at. After, returned to Bally's to get ready for the Rock and roll that was happening that night. After getting ready and relaxing a bit, drove over to the Hard Rock. The construction they are doing there is insane. Its barely recognizable from the outside. In what used to be the parking lot is a giant structure. From what I heard, that is going to be the new "joint". Turns out that night was the last concert ever at the "joint" (headlined by Motley Crue), however they are building a new one. So everyone was out in droves. The HRH was PACKED. There was a line snaked around the casino to get into the Motley Crue show.. The concert I was attending was on the other side of the casino, at "Wasted Space" which Corey Hart opened not too long ago. Imagine 2 concerts happening at once, on a friday night at the Hard Rock Casino in Vegas. It was tight. Hit the tables for a while, actually left a few bucks up. Guys at my table saw Adam Sandler there.. One actually got kicked out of the bathroom to let him use it privately. Eventually got into Wasted Space.. very cool small venue. Very expensive drinks. The show was awesome and immediately after the band finished, they opened the flood gates to the normal club going crowd.. which was a bummer. The music was pumped so insanely loud (and im a musician) and with the d-bag crowd entering and pricey drinks.. we where out. Normally the band (Eagles of Death Metal) hangs out after the show with their fans, but due to the hectic-ness, they probably retreated to their rooms. I tried to gamble there but it was too busy. Where did we go? where else - Terribles. Tables were packed at Terribles but i managed to get a sweet t-shirt for signing up for the players club and lost some free slot money in the tight machines. Place was so smokey and crowded too. After a few hours went back to the HRH to see if it had gotten less busy but it was late and we went back to bally's to hit the sack. Woke up hungry again, tried the coffee shop at Ballys.. the line wasn't long but everyone with platinum cards kept getting in front of us so we left. Very long line over at Paris, so walked all the way over to Planet Hollywood. No line at the coffee shop there. Kinda pricey but we just needed food. Managed to miss half of the Celtics Game but that was ok since the officiating was BS. Felt like doing some walking around so we walked up the strip towards The Mirage to hit the Beatles gift shop for my mom. Didnt see the new mirage volcano in action, gotta do that next time. walked up to the Palazzo to use some free play, managed to lose that plus some of my own money pretty fast in some machines. Most of their tables where closed, and the open ones were packed.. strange. Figured we'd walk up to the Encore. It was beautiful as expected but I wasnt blown over. IT was just like the Wynn Jr. I really liked the "HD" video poker machines. I'd love to stay there and experience the whole thing. Walked all the way back to ballys and took a quick rest (and a few drinks) Since the weather improved, I decided to give Fremont street a proper welcome. Started at the Fitz, and actually did really well at the tables. Left up a bit, played some slots at the Fremont and lost again. Went to the Golden Gate and gasped at the sight of the dancer they have in the pit.. wow. She was attractive enough but so out of place for vibe of the GG. Went to Binions, lost some money on video poker and quickly lost more at the craps table. I figured I was doing so terrible I might as well hit up the El Cortez. I managed to stay even for a while at the BJ table there.. but eventually everyone left the table and it was just me. I colored up and hit the roulette table with the gf. They wouldn't let her play without going over to the players club booth to sign up first.. I was baffled the pit boss made her do this. I had a card so i was all set, but i have never heard of it. Others sat at the table and didnt have to show their players cards.. WTF. Was she too lazy to check her ID? Anyway, i lost again, and hit another BJ table. Lost again, go figure. We left and went back to Ballys for a few hours of the Bar top video poker.. (and guess what, i lost more!). After stumbling up to the room at 4am, we turned in. My flight was at noon the next day so i had to get up early. Woke up at 8am, packed up real fast, got in the rental car and hit the rental car return. Everything went smoothly, got to the airport in time and flights were on time. Very excited to get back to the 20 degree weather in new england (sike..). Got home early.. after opening my bags we found $15 in slot machine tickets we forgot to cash out. DOH. There's another $15 i'm down. All in all i lost $300, which isnt alot since im not a high roller. Last trip i managed to come home with an extra $250, so i guess it evens itself out.
