I wasn't expecting a suite on NYE, but kinda thought I might get one of the newer renovated rooms in the Ivory tower.

In all my years of gambling I've never heard of theo's being that low or the comp payback being that low. What I've stated is based on what my theo used to be when I asked my hosts at Silverton and Excalibur, and what my Silverton host told me about the comp percentage for locals vs non-locals. I guess maybe they do things differently there?

    Silverton play:
    4-26-08: $66k coin in - theo $2800 (4.2%)
    5-8/9 08: $125,094 coin in - theo $4,958 (3.96%)
    5-23/24 08: $86,941 coin in - theo $3713 (4.27%)
    6-13-08: $20,334 coin in - theo $859 (4.2%)
    7-26-08: $31,114 coin in - theo $1,266 (4%)
    8-8-08: $46,081 coin in - theo $1,818 (3.945%)
    9-5/6-08: $40,646 coin in - theo $1,803 (4.4%)
    11-27-08: $29,867 coin in - theo $1,214 (4%)
    12-6-08: $25,366 coin in - theo $1,020 (4%)

    Excalibur play:
    10-25-08: $25,294 coin in - theo $1,241 (4.9%)
    11-6-08: $26,995 coin in - theo $1,526 (5.6%)
    11-28-08: $23,263 coin in - theo $1,190 (5.1%)
    12-5-08: $25,524 coin in - theo $1,316 (5.1%)
    12-25-08: $26,527 coin in - theo $1,200 (4.5%)

This is just a sampling - I could post all of my play through 2010 at these properties and it would be similar. Am I figuring out something wrong?

Even my theo at Tropicana in August of this year was over 3.5% of my coin in.

I just found a couple days play at Red Rock where I played for a very short time, but had a host that would give me my theo info.

    Red Rock:
    7-11-08: $32,234 coin in - theo $1,500 (4.65%)
    10-23-08: $20,472 coin in - theo $843 (4.1%)

But I did find one other place I played where I got my theo info and it WAS very low!

    M Resort:
    11-25-10: $42,468 coin in - theo $1,058 (2.49%)

I was comped $500 on a $1,600 theo at the Palms -- that would be over 30%. If he had comped $500 on my actual loss of $2,600 that would be 20%. He said they will give the player the higher of the two options.

justmare thanks for posting all of that. I'm really surprised by those numbers as well. VP has generally been quoted as being rated at ~2% house edge, one of the high limit VP players on this board posted some broad numbers a while back suggesting closer to 1% rating at MGM casinos, but you're showing 5%+ at Excal. Getting 4%+ is incredibly generous anywhere. Even with awful strategy it would be hard to play that badly unless the paytables were horrendous, but at some of those casinos that shouldn't be the case.

Was this ALL video poker? No slots? What kind of video poker and what kind of paytables do you play?

I rarely play slots. Rarely. I'm trying to slip a little slots into my play now, but I've just started doing that. And it really is just a little because I can't stand just pushing a button like that. So, for the numbers I posted that should pretty much be all VP.

I play all kinds of VP -- single line from quarters to dollars (occasionally a little higher, but not for long periods of play -- just taking a shot, basically), and multi-line from quarters to dollars. I TRY to play low volatility games like JOB or BP, but I can't stick with 'em for long. I mostly play DDB. My favorite game is TDB, but I can't play that for long unless I'm hitting a lot.

Pay tables weren't full pay at Silverton or Excalibur, but they weren't the worst I've seen, either. I can't remember exactly what they were, though. I know it was 8/5 BP at Silverton and I believe it was 9/6 DDB. Excal was either 9/6 or 9/5 DDB -- can't remember for certain.

At Palms I'm playing 9/6 JOB, 8/5 BP, 9/6 DDB.

I don't see a lot of people interested in the Palms info, but just in case someone who is finds this thread in the future here are the offers I just received from the Palms based on the play described earlier in this thread:

    Weekend offer Now - April 30, 2014
Two nights in a premier ivory tower room
    $225 in free slot play
VIP nightlife pass to Moon, The View, and Ghostbar

Midweek offer everything above plus $80 food credit.

The other offer that came is good Nov 15 - Dec 15 with 2 comp nights in premier ivory tower room and $150 Visa gift card. Earn additional gift cards ($50 Visa) for each 25,000 points on video poker or 2,000 points on slots.

Can't say that I'm blown away by these offers as I'm used to much better offers for the amount of play I gave them. Guess I really do have to look at it that I'm getting to play better games!

for your first offer as a new player at there property thats like a good offer

weekend nites are the hardest to get and i bet they will let you add extra comp nites on weekdays without a problem

vegas comps are tight ,im notsure what cet would give you except the free rooms as they love slot players.

and rember depending on your play the will comp of the extras on the back end.

Considering the games, I guess they are good offers. I'm just used to getting a lot more at MGM and CET properties for that kind of play. Of course, I'm playing worse games at those properties, though.

If you were getting 4% Theo with games that have <1% HA, then you were doing DAMN good...
I was satisfied to get 2% Theo with 99.5% games...remember that's giving you 400% of what you should be getting...
Besides, Palms is in another class completely from Silverton....
They have FPDW, and other 100%+ games...

I took close to two years off from gambling and just lost my MGM Platinum status as of October 1.

I was diamond and then 7 Stars and then back to diamond again with CET, but that got kind of old, too. I did get a lot of great offers from them over the years. Hubby got to go to a golf clinic with Tiger Woods and played Cascata and Rio Secco many times based on my play. Got lots of nice gift card and cash offers, etc...

I guess it comes down to the fact that I got bored with what they had to offer, took the time off from gambling, and came back wanting a change.

I did go to Harrah's Rincon twice in July to get back to diamond with CET. I get decent Rincon offers, but really crappy Vegas offers so far. I booked Bally's for one night November 30 and will see how much I feel like playing there.

I think one of the places I got some of the best offers in the past was from Golden Nugget. Great offers, nice events, decent suites, but they somehow thought they were a strip property and were inconsistent with covering food.

I just never got involved with the Palms before and decided to give it a try because of the good games. We both like it there, so I was hopeful that it would work out for us. If we decide to make it our home casino I'll just have to lower my expectations.

Yep, I guess I'm lucky to have gotten what I did in the past getting 4%+, but at the Palms I'm not playing 100% games.
