Dewey or anyone else who has an answer:

Is the California Hotel close, real close, to the BTC? I am staying at PHO and arriving at about 2 pm. But my bus (Lux Bus from Anaheim to Las Vegas) has 2 stops, Harrah's (which i and most people do), and the California Hotel.

My goal is to stay on the Lux Bus (i don't check in till 4 pm) and get off at CH. Then walk to BTC and get my reduced fare ID. I want to check out SLS. It opens August 23 and i'm there August 24). I only need the fare for just 2 hours because i need to check in to PHO.

Can you use the reduced fare ID on the Strip? Or is it only for the residential routes?

If you can't, then i'll just get off at Harrah's like i usually do.

Or maybe do my original plan and get off CH (if it's close to BTC) and then take the Strip bus from BTC to SLS, and then take the bus to PHO.

The pass (if not using the RF ID) is $6.00 right? So i can get off and on with my pass as long as it's within 2 hours?

What if i get the ID and use it from anywhere close to the Strip, like Tropicana or Flamingo Blvds, and travel to Sahara Blvd to get to SLS?

The bonneville center is about 6 blocks from the fremont experience, add another 3 or so to get to the cal. If you are fit and have only 1 bag it's not bad, some people call it sketchy - I dont, you walk right by the jail, I dont figure for shady people hanging out there and have never seen any. The best way would be to walk to the street between the 4-queens and nugget and then go straight south to the BTC.

There's really no need to walk all the way to the BTC. All you need to do is pick up the Deuce at its Fremont Street Experience stop. This is located at the eastern end (the "beginning" if you will) of the Fremont Street Experience.

From the California Hotel, walk down Main for a block to get to the western end of the Fremont Street experience, then walk Fremont until it ends. You will see a bus stop. The Deuce picks up there. The Deuce will take you to Las Vegas Blvd. (The Strip) after a few stops (one of them, ironically, being the BTC). You'll be able to exit the bus across the street from SLS.

Tip: If you're sick of carrying your bag around, use the Bell Desk at one of the casinos of your choice. They will store your bag free of charge, but it's customary to tip to have this done.

Last I knew, a 24-hour pass for The Deuce and all other buses is $8.00. I don't qualify for reduced fare so I can't answer that part of your question.

    Hope this helps.

    Or better yet...

I'm not even sure why you choose to go downtown (California Hotel). Though I do LOVE downtown... It seems to me if your goal is Planet Hollywood and SLS and your first bus can take you to Harrah's, I'd get off at Harrah's, store my bag at Harrah's, and use the Deuce to go north to SLS... Then after I'm done checking out SLS, I'd take it south to Harrah's, get my bag, and check in to P. Ho.. These three properties are all on the Strip. There's really no need to even be downtown in your scenario.

If you're healthy and in good shape, you can easily walk with your bag from Harrah's --> P.Ho. You will pass the following other casinos on The Strip (duck inside to get A/C if it's too hot for you): The Quad/The Linq, Flamingo, Cromwell, Ballys, Paris.

The only reason i would go Downtown is to the BTC to get a Reduced Fare ID card. That's the only place to get the ID.

    Don't give up!

After the Cal you can pick up these southbound buses on Main Street and Ogden to the BTC: 106, 207, 208, 214. Check Google Maps or the RTC site for Sunday times. The stop is right next to the rail cars on display.

As you board have a crispy Five Dollar bill visible and ready and ask for a "24 Hour Pass". That's the Residential rate and it's good on any bus including the Express lines. At the BTC hop on the Deuce, SDX or 108 to SLS. The SDX and 108 will drop you off on Paradise and may be more luggage-friendly.

I buy these $5 passes often and have never been asked for proof of Residence. I get them when I board the 202 and 201 and then take the CX or WAX to DT. Twice I bought one on the BHX but I don't know if you can purchase it on the Deuce due to the Tourist Tax. I have used it on the Deuce however.

You could walk to bus stop at binions which is 2 blocks from the California exit and take the wax or sdx to the BTC.

    Hey thanks guys.

What i have decided to do is slightly altered. I'll be at PHO on Sunday 24th. I will be arriving about 1:30 pm. I plan on checking in to PHO at 4 pm.
I now plan on stopping at Margaritaville and registering for their Tournament at about 2 pm. I will also try to get a new Margaritaville card as well.
Then i'll head over to PHO at 4 pm for check in. Then after i unpack, i'll head outside to where the SDX bus stops (near Paris i think), and pay the driver $6 for a 2 hour pass. The Deuce bus will probably be crowded and take much longer, whereas the SDX maybe will be quicker (my route would be from PH/Paris up to SLS.

2 hours will be plenty of time to check out the old Sahara, and take some pics of the North Strip. Then on the way back it won't matter time wise (either the Deuce or SDX), get off at Bellagio and cross the street to PH.

Maybe in Nov i'll hit the BTC to get a reduced fare pass. The weather will be a lot cooler then.

My understanding is the reduced fare pass only works on residential routes, but my $6 2 hour pass on the Strip is either given to me by the driver or i can get a pass at the bus stand, right?
