We have gotten most of our rooms free for quite a while now by receiving room offers in the mail. Well, sometimes we have to pay for a weekend night. For our upcoming trip in October, our room is being comped by a host. Is it common to not be given a reservation #? That makes me a little uneasy, but if that's how it's done so be it. Just do not want to get there and they say "who the heck are you?"

In my experience, it depends on the host. My NYNY host always sent a confirmation number. Same for every host I've ever used at a CET property. But when I started staying at Mirage instead, I had similar worries when no confirmation number was sent by my host, and I called casino marketing to get one in advance. Over the two years since, the Mirage host has never once sent a confirmation number but the room reservations have always been just fine. So I've stopped worrying about it.

My host always tells me my confirmation # when he calls me to say that all is set up. I agree, if it would set your mind at ease just call them and get it. I'm sure everything is fine but I wouldn't feel comfortable just showing up without one either.

Our host is absolutely terrible on email replies and confirmation #s. Which is why I no longer bring her any gifts!:poke:

Anyway, a couple of weeks before the trip, I just call reservations and make sure we have one and everything was arranged. Yes, it is always there, but why is it such an effort to email a confirmation?:confused2:

I almost never see a confirmation # email from a host. Like others, I just call a week or two out to make sure all is as it should be. And it always has been.

Once you have a relationship with the host, it won't bother you so much.

This really drives me nuts. I know they may be busy, but I am thinking that putting a confirmation email together would take about 30 seconds.

Way less time than getting phone calls, or multiple emails from a worried customer.

CET is pretty good about it. MGM types, less so.

A couple of trips ago, I show up at a hotel/casino which I will not name and they dont have my reservation. I dont have the confirmation number with me. I give them my hosts name, but the VIP desk isnt open. I am stuck. I call my hosts cell, who has worked at this same place for at least 8 years, and who the front desk clerk swears they have never heard of, and get a voice mail. I ask if i can go ahead and pay for a room and I will get my host to comp it when i check out. Front desk clerk says, "sorry we are all booked up". I ask if he thinks I have concocted this entire story or if I am legitimately here and they lost my res. He says its not his issue. I say, ok, went across the street and got a comped room in about a nanosecond. The host called me later and i didnt take her call.

So, my point is, make sure you bring the confirmation.

I always have the confirmation email from the host, even if the number is not there, stored on my cellphone and ready to show the clerk. More than once I had to pull it up, though they eventually find it faster than I do.

I like to have a confirmation number, as I am such a control freak. I email the host about the reservation and he replies he's got it all taken care of.

I then go online to CET every so often to see if I can book a room in that date range. I finally can't because, I am now in the system. Now I know he has it taken care of then.

Then the control freak, me, will still email later and ask for the confirmation number. lol.

I can go online and get the comped rooms myself, but the host can hook me up with extras, so I let him.

for most of my Vegas trips with CET I book the room, then touch base with the host providing the confirmation number. She attaches any offers that may be available, and puts me in for an upgrade.

Have not bothered to do this with MGM as their online booking system is worthless as far as I can tell.

Thanks everyone for your comments. At least I know that it is not unusual to not get a reservation/confirmation number, that it does happen. She told me it was in the system, going "upstairs" as we spoke, and I now choose to trust her. But who knows, as the trip draws closer I may cave and do some checking.

I've never had a problem getting a confirmation number from a host, but if I did, I'd ask until I got one. It exists. I want it.

If no confirmation number then it should be under your name. As a result you should be able to call to confirm and make sure you get the name of the person and date you talked to him/her.
