I posted a while back that I am heading to Punta Cana, DR at the end of the year.

The trip includes Me (R&B Smoke), DW, 15 yr old daughter, 4 yr old son, FIL, MIL, BIL, & SIL. It seems odd, while I am excited about going for a week to be on the beach I am more excited about my April trip to Las Vegas to see George Strait and gambol.

I am looking into booking a charter fishing trip for me, BIL, and FIL. Anyone have any recommendations?? I am thinking of using Gone Fishing ½ day charter?

I have heard bad things about the casinos in the DR so probably will only take 1k to gamble with and maybe even less.

We are staying at Iberostar Bavaro Suites. Has anyone stayed here in the past?

Any other suggestions for Punta Cana that are can’t miss activities??

    Thank you all!!

If you ever want wine there there's a restaurant in punta Cana called la cava that is considered to have the best wine collection in the carribean. There is also a restaurant that is run by a seven Michelin star chef in Bavaro. Can't remember the name of it. But there are local restaurants mom and pops that offer the best food. I believe resorts do arrange trips throughout the day for guests who want to leave the resort but in not 1000% sure. I always just went to eat at the local restaurants on my own when I went with friends and with my ex when I went with him.

Do not play Caribbean keno..... they give you free chips to try it out. It is a scam game to suck you in.

Our first trip to Punta Cana over Christmas 2012 we stayed at Iberostar Bavaro Suites. Great place, great vacation. We have since stayed at Grand Sirenis and Grand Bahia Principe Ambar, but would not hesitate to stay at Iberostar again. I like the layout of the resort with the small 8 unit buildings rather than a hotel layout. Staying at bavaro Suites you will also have full access to Iberostar Dominica and Punta Cana resorts right next door.

I haven't been on a fishing trip but I know there are several charter outfits. Mike's Fishing Charters is a popular one and I think he limits the trip to four guests.

As far as gambling, I choose to save my bankroll for Vegas. There is a small crappy casino at Iberostar, but I think it is a ripoff joint. The only legitimate casino is at Hard Rock. It's about a $30US cab ride, and they do allow visitors access to the casino.

We have been on the snorkeling excursion and ziplines twice. Both were fun. Haven't been on the Santo Domingo tour, but probably will on a future trip.

If you have any other questions about the resort (ala carte restaurants, dress codes, etc.) let me know.
