I am set to depart for Vegas Aug 14-17. This will be my first Vegas trip. I gamble here and there, going to a casino 4-5 times a year.

I live in the metro Detroit area so I am within 15 mins or so of multiple casinos. I got the itch last night and decided to head to MGM Grand Detroit for a little pre-Vegas warm up. So here is the roller coaster ride...

I went by myself and planned on spending about $400. I had $200 on me and planned on taking out another $200 from the ATM if needed. I planned on playing mostly slots, with $100 going towards a $5 machine (something I always do).

This was actually my first time at the MGM Detroit, as I usually go for MotorCity. I was quite surprised by the waitresses here... every single one of them were packing! Is this a requirement to work there? Sure seemed like it... It took me a while to find the high limit area for my $5 machine. It was located in the far corner of the casino without any signage. I put a hundred into a $5 Triple Diamond machine and eventually work it up $250. I cash out and decided that this will be my bank roll for the rest of the night ($250 ticket and the remaining $100 in my pocket).

I head over to the quarters and wind the $250 all the way down to nothing... Nothing was hitting at all. I go back to the High Limit area and put my other hundred into a machine and get nothing. So now I am out. I head over to the ATM and take out $180 (what an idiot). I hop back into some quarter machines and find this Second Chance Roll Double Diamond machine. Anyone else ever see this? If you bet the max and land on this second chance roll symbol the other two reels will roll again. Sounds cool at first, but it is a complete tease. I kept hitting that symbol but then getting nothing on the other two reels. When you land on that symbol the machine goes nuts and everyone looks over but then they see you only won 4 or 6 credits. I played for a while on $80 but eventually lost it. So I am left with a hundred dollar bill and feeling pretty crappy about myself. I found myself wandering over to the high limit area again.

By now the room is pretty packed and my favorite $5 machines are full. It was getting late, so I said what the hell. I found a $100 machine, where a waitress and a security staff were chatting and leaning on the seat to it. I asked "are you protecting this machine" in a joking manner to the security guy, and he responds with "it's the hottest machine in here, I have to" in a joking manner back. So great, now I have the this guy and the waitress watching me play. I put in my hundred dollar bill and spin away. Single bar, single bar, single bar. 10 credits... $1,000. Thank you and good night. They both chuckled and I cashed out and went home. I didn't want to take a pic of the machine with them watching me, but I have to show off the $1,000, so here you go...

Am I ready for Vegas?? lol

Ha! Good for you!!! What a great way to pre-game for Vegas!!! It's even sweeter by the fact that the joint had taken you down to "feelin' pretty crappy" and then bang, you hit somethin' GREAT!!!

OK, I'm a little slow. Does that mean they were very buxom or actually carrying guns?

    Congrats on the win!

From the depths of despairs to the joy of victory. This is what keeps us coming back.

Hey Joe, don't let the Detroit stereotypes get to you... they were very buxom. :)

And casinos love these hits even more than players do...because players always remember "that one time" "that one machine" hit for me. And like a heroin addict, they keep going back to feel that same high.

OP, congrats on the hit. :peace:

OK, I too assumed they were carrying guns. I probably watch too much TV :).

Awesome hit, and how brave you are. I could never do that.

    Have a great Vegas trip!!!

Brave? I was and still am feeling like an idiot. But that's gambling, right? There was even a pause after I hit to let it ride...
