A pre-trip report for my upcoming Sun through Thur visit - staying at Harrah's on the Strip, first time staying there. Visited casino last trip, and loved the Oyster Bar which I plan to visit several times. Also liked the outdoor bar between Quad and Harrah's. The Big Wheel was being built last time I was there, my room reservation includes a free ticket (all of them do, some gimmick promotion).

I'm done planning, although I should give up planning at all - I obsess for weeks at a time prior to a visit, and write down this elaborate schedule of activities, all of which go flying out the window as soon as I get my first adult beverage in me upon checking in, and I end up 'playing it by ear' for the remainder of my trip...maybe all the planning I do is just an effort to keep up on what's happening in ever-changing Vegas...

I arrive Sunday at 1 pm. I have a ticket for that evening's Legends In Concert at the Flamingo. I'm hoping to reserve some time in the Spa at Harrah's, I have a severely messed up lower back problem and I'm hoping their deep massage will do something to help, or else I will be limited in the amount of walking I can do at one time, although I did just order some electrical device that is supposed to block nerve pain signals up and down the spine, I only hope it arrives before I leave...Monday evening's show is Terry Fator, wherever he is playing, I think it is Treasure Island or The Mirage...on Tuesday my show is Jersey Boys - I love shows, have seen all the Cirque shows except the Elvis one, and I usually see 3 or 4 shows every trip - I wanted to see Rod Stewart and Shania, but his is dark, and she is on break until December.

I am hoping to spend one day, at least, downtown - love MSS and the micro brews there and at 4 Queens in that cigar bar they have. On Wednesday, I will spend all day (or most of) at Green Valley Ranch in Henderson, with my sister who lives in Henderson - she just started a new job following a year of unemployment, but was graciously able to arrange being off for one day while I am there. I already made reservations to take her and our aunt, who lives in Boulder, to Hank's Steakhouse, which I've read is ok.

Those are the places I plan to visit - for gambling, I am a low roller and have a budget of $6G for this entire trip, of which I plan to give my sister one grand just to help out, and for Christmas - I play some slots if I can find ones I like, mostly stick to bartop VP. I plan to play in a couple of morning poker tournaments at Harrah's, first time playing live although I play daily on line again. I will also probably make some wagers in a sports book and may watch the first few college basketball games. I don't really worry about percentages, or trying to always play correct strategy - mostly I'm just trying to have a good time and return my head to normal by people watching in the greatest city.

For food, besides Hank's I don't have solid plans - I loved The Oyster Bar and will definitely hit that again. I guess there is a new 24 hour food place that opened at Harrah's (Fulton Street) that offers breakfast, but also has salad bars, a sushi bar, soup bar, noodle bar, bento boxes, etc. that I will also try.

I'm an acknowledged expert on playing 'Spot The Hooker' so maybe this trip, I will capture some photos. I can tell easily who they are when there is 40 other open seats at the bar and they choose to sit by me. When propositioned, I either tell them they can't afford me and wink, or I play the Dudley Moore bit from 'Arthur' and end up exclaiming in a very loud voice 'You're a hooker?!?!' Both responses drive them right off.

That's the pre-trip report - I will drive from Del Rio to San Antonio on Saturday, park in the hotel's parking lot, check in, and head out to the Alamo Firehouse theater, which serves beer and food during movies - a great place to start this mini-vacation before flying out early Sunday morning.

Sorry - forgot to add one small thing, and this is the kind of humor I've been blessed with...I'm seriously considering hiring a 'working girl' for the time I spend at GVR in Henderson...I want to tell my sister that I got drunk the previous day, one thing led to another, yadda yadda yadda, meet your new sister-in-law...would be worth seeing the expression on her face but it has to be the right type girl that can carry it off, plus I would want her to either be the biggest working girl ever, or the homeliest...

I will be there the same time as you + one day. Keep in mind on the 16th the Strip will be closed around the time you and i get there because of the Marathon.
I am staying at PHO but arriving in Vegas from LA at Harrah's. Fulton Street wasn't open when i was last in Vegas (August), so look forward to checking it out. Let us know how Harrah's was, i may be staying there in the Spring since CET now only comps me 5 nights at Harrah's and Rio.
