    Trips to Las Vegas:

I’m not a frequent poster but I did do a half-assed trip report last year in February that was supposed to be live but ended up being about half our trip and then I got lazy. This year I am about follow through though. My partner (my wife actually) and I enjoyed reading what I did write. Brought back some great memories of a really fun trip.

Last year we were on a tight budget. We budgeted 300 bucks for 3 days and came home with 40 dollars. We were happy with that and it’s funny to look back on the past year since taking that trip. In that year we moved to a different state, we both switched jobs and I now travel 100% from Columbus to Seattle and back to Columbus as a consultant each week.. I have only been doing it a little over a month so while I’m almost to status with United, I’m not quite there. Good news is that wherever I want to go in the continental United States as long as I leave from Seattle and am back to work on Monday, I can expense my flight. So free flight for me whoohoo! When I booked this trip though I didnt know that I would get my flight expensed so I picked some pretty horrible flights because of price. I figure I may have to pay $150 to change them so I'm not getting in at midnight Thurs-Friday and leaving at the butt crack of dawn Monday morning. We did have to pay for the wife’s flight though from Columbus on Southwest at 450 RT. It seems like flights to Vegas from Columbus have been on the rise and with us going over MLK weekend, I’m sure it didn’t help with price.

So we will be going Feb 13th through Feb 17th since I have MLK day off. Staying at The Quad comped the frst night and good ol El Co vintage room for the rest of the nights. I love downtown. I love the old smell, the seemingly looser slots and the proximity of casinos to each other on Fremont. I don’t know how I feel about the Vintage room though (which as I read that it seems like a contradiction to what I just said about downtown). I booked on Hotwire and sort of got bamboozled. It was DT, normally 145 a night night and priced at 53 bucks a night. I compared stars and saw there was no resort fee and I figured out pretty easily it was most likely El Co. I predicted it would be a cabana room thought because of the normal price and got book happy. Booked it and I’ll be damned if it wasn’t a vintage room. When has a vintage room ever been 145 a night?:rolleyes2: That’s what I get for pulling the trigger so quick. I’ve stayed in the tower rooms back in 2010 and was pleased but I’m a little concerned that you can only get to these rooms through a staircase. The week after we get back DW is having surgery on her ankle and while we will be doing a ton of walking I know, I don’t want to put her under more stress after a long day. When I check in I am going to talk to them and see what they might do.

Budget for this trip is a little higher than last year. LOL We laugh pretty hard at our 300 dollar budget but we had a great time on it. Since making more money though and saving more for this trip our bankroll will be a little higher. I’m budgeting 1500 for three days so that breaks down to 500 a day for entertainment and gambling. Food is a separate budget. We are going to do a groupon/Restaurant.com/online coupon adventure for our meals which satisifies my budget concious inner being:)

Sorry for posting so early but this site is like my pre-game and gets me hyped!

I am the same way. I tend to start hitting up this forum about 3 months before a Vegas trip to help get my excitement level up, and check out new things to do, things to look for, etc. I have tried a couple of live trips. One I lasted a few days and posted a lot of drunk ramblings which was a little embarassing, but I don't think this board minds it at all. My last try at a live trip report failed when Planet Hollywood sucked up all my money in about 10 hours including $500 in free play without even a complimentary reach around. I didn't even post updates after I landed due to the disgust with my degenerate gambling. But I know everyone enjoys the trip reports where they are low rollers, high rollers, average rollers, tourists (non gamblers), foodies, bachelor/bachelorette parties, or what have you. So good luck.

I don't know if you or your significant other plays My Vegas. It is well worth it if you plan on making a trip to the strip. You can pretty much get several buffets for free if you both start playing now and play for the next two weeks. As far as the rooms I have never stayed downtown, but if you explain the issue with the stairs and ankle you should have a decent shot of them helping you out. It might not mean better quality rooms, but may be better location for walking purposes.

I lived in Columbus Ohio for four years through college (Devry's Computer Information Systems program). I am sure you are ready to get out of the ice box. I loved the weather there in June - September, but I much prefer South Carolina for the rest of the year :evillaugh. We had coworkers that moved form Houston Texas recently and they were complaining when we were under 32 degrees for 3 days this year. I remember it snowing 6-8 inches in late December and staying on the ground until late February one year up there.

Again, good luck, and have a blast.

Good luck on the report. :) I always like reading them, but I know I'll never attempt one myself. One of the huge benefits I get on a vacation is that I never have to look at email or basically anything on the internet. I can't imagine getting on a laptop and surfing the forums while in Vegas.

I have attempted to write down a few notes my last few trips just so I'd have more reason to write up a report. I get like 2 days in and just end up giving up though. :)

Luckily through the week I get to escape to Seattle through the week where its been low 50's however this week, I decided to pack my fleece as a coat and its record lows here:( Back home we are suppose to get a lot of snow this week so definitly not missing it at all. Thanks for the tip on Myvegas. Started playing last night and hope to have enough for a BOGO buffet at Bellagio.

So I would say I had my first win of the trip and it doesnt start for another 72 hours!

Originally I had thought my flight wasn't going to be able to be expensed (I work in Seattle live in Columbus OH and fly there and back every week) so in order to get the cheapest flight I booked the last flight out of Seattle on United with a stop in SFO ( I know stupid but I'm almost to status with United) and it didnt leave until 8pm. As I got off the plane last night in Seattle I had a crazy idea that I would go to the ticket counter and pretty much beg someone to change my flight and not charge me. I know stupid but I was so tired but still hyped about my trip to Vegas that I was convinced it would work.

Beaten down and looking crazy (I'm not the kind of weekly traveler that dresses up, if you see me in an airport I look like a softball lesbian) I go over to the United counter and get stopped by a younger guy. He asks me if I'm checking in and say I say no I need to talk to someone about changing my flight. I show him my itenierary on my United app and explain that I would like to change my flight to a later morning flight (preferably the 11:49AM flight with a stop in LAX) on Thursday. He gives me the schpill about the change fees and then says you're probably going to have to pay a fare class difference. :confused2: Uh oh, I think. He then says let me take a look at in the computer and see what I can do. I walk over pretty down to the computer and he starts typing away. I always wonder what they are typing. Sometimes I just imagine them typing away on an email or facebook like "You should see this clown in front me", to their co-workers. Anyway he types types types away for a good 5 minutes which at this point felt like eternity. I then hear the printer run and he goes to pick up 2 tickets. At this point my blood starts boiling because I think he just changed my flight and probably charged me out the wazoo. He then looks up, smiles and says "Sometimes I have to lie to customers that there is nothing I can do but you have a beautiful smile and a beautiful face so I switched the flight for you, no charge".

WHOOOOHOOOOOOO. He saved me at least $300 dollars even if I would have tried to change it same day because of the fare difference. I was so excited I think I floated out of SeaTac.

I already feel ahead on this trip!
