I do not actually use my entire bankroll when out in Vegas.

In fact, most times I will leave Las Vegas with at least half of what I came with, simply because I refuse to play to the last cent.

I realize that I use a significant chunk of my bankroll as backup, as a cushion.

    Anyone else out there?

I generally have a portion (about 20%) that is on reserve. Had a very bad losing trip this year and by the time I got to McCarran for the return flight I only had a $10 bill to throw in the slots there (including the backup).

It's a once a year trip for me so I don't keep my reserve religiously, but it is an amount that is 'outside' of my daily budget.

Next trip will be $500 per day for all gaming & other expenses, $500 on reserve.

I don't have backup, per se, but I budget by the day.

So once a day is done and I've won or had budget remaining, I can't lose that money. I'd have to get cleaned out every day to lose it all. Thus far that's never happened.

It's all on the line for me but, having said that, I would probably shut up shop if things were going really badly and I had lost about 80% of my bankroll. Then I would probably just play some low limit poker and small stakes VP. I'm in Vegas so I'm not going to completely stop gambling!

I have a cash reserve that I bring which I don't actually consider my bankroll. It's sizable, equal to my entire gaming budget. I keep it in a safety deposit box at the cashier's cage. My bankroll and mad money is in my room safe
and some in my pocket. I don't cash checks there and I don't use ATM's because of fees. I don't share my financial profile with anyone, so a casino credit line is not an option. To me, cash is king.

If it's cash from my BR it stays in Vegas! Now I put a few hundred in the truck to eat on the way home. All winnings go home though. Every time I have a hand pay I put it back for Mama.

At what point are dollars considered "winnings"?

I ask, as my wife always says to keep winnings. If I win $5 on a $1.25 bet, is that a win?

I have been extremely fortunate that I have yet to meet/exceed my daily budget.
