Haven't done any of the poolside gaming in my past trips. If you gamble at the poolside casinos is the alcohol free? Seems like it would be a good way to get my day drinking on instead of pay $40.00 for a bucket of beer each go around.

good to know. Last year I heard someone say that if the pool has a blackjack table or whatever gaming in there, and you are not staying at the hotel, they still have to let you in the pool area to go play, seams like an easy loophole to get into pools in which you are not staying at their property? can anyone shed some light on that?

This is correct. All gaming areas must be open to the public at all times. You can enter the pool area if there is gaming regardless if you are a guest or not. The only exception to this rule that I know of is the Villa Prive at Bellagio which has a closed circuit video feed to someone at NGC while in use.
