Went for superbowl party at the Plaza with wife and had a great time- didn't hurt that the Patriots won. Have always had a soft spot for the Plaza even before the re-model. Don't know if it was because of the superbowl but the place was hopping, usually tables a ghost town but rocking this time, great party atmosphere. Because my wife had to return earlier than I , decided I would spend two days at the D, hadn't stayed there since the re-branding. We used to enjoy the property as Fitz and still enjoyed the casino but was excited to see the new remodel of the rooms. Walked over from the Plaza and checked in around 11 am which was good, asked if there was anything high up with a view. The girl told me yes in fact there was a room available but it would be an extra charge for the higher floor. I assumed (my mistake) that it was a corner room or at least something other than the standard room so I agreed to pay the price as well as the resort fee. In this case the"D" stood for disappointment. True it was a higher floor but not a corner and no different from a standard room. In addition the film covering the windows made the view distorted. The next morning I went down to register my disappointment with the additional charge and the "resort?" fee tacked on. Spoke witha manager who said it was their policy to charge extra for floors higher than 16. I have never heard of this before, I then started to ask what you recieve for the resort fee. I told him at the Plaza at least we recieved two bottled waters each day. He said yes but this is better than the Plaza- I told him I disagreed the Plaza rooms were larger and nicer. He said but we give you wifi with the fee, a $5 discount to the coffee shop (once), and security is also provided with the resort fee. You have got to be kidding me!!! Security??? So I could have a guard accompany me at my beck and call? NO of course not. I then proceeded to tell him upon checking in to the Plaza we recieved two discount coupons to Hash House, discount to the coffee bar, match play coupons to blackjack, as well as additional coupons to the other restaurants on Plaza property, and security was free, and had never been asked for additional money for a higher floor. I was very cordial and was simply trying to get the additonal charge removed but no dice.

I can only hope the security fee is the mob trying to get their hands back into the Vegas business... :)

Alrighty then... I guess I've always had a difficult time understanding folks who feel EVERYTHING is up for negotiation, but sounds like you've identified a place you like and one you don't and there's certainly value in that.

You are the one who assumed it would be a corner room. You are the one who signed the paper acknowledging the resort fee.

I think almost everything IS negotiable, especially in the tourism industry.

In this case you may has got more millage negotiating on the front end.

I love the D...it's my "home" Downtown. My room is comped, so I don't have to worry about the resort fee but that being said, I'd probably stay at the Fremont rather than pay a resort fee. I ask for a room near the elevators because I have a mobility issue and they've never charged extra for that. I've never heard the extra charge for a higher floor!! I usually request a lower floor because if I had to evacuate using the stairs....less is better for me. However, I've been placed on the 32nd floor before, and NOT at my request. I guess hotels will charge for whatever people are willing to pay extra for!! Sorry you felt scammed regarding the 'higher floor.' Did the manager offer to refund the extra charge since you didn't get what you thought you were paying for?

no refund was offered, one night was comped so only resort fee for one night, but the "higher floor" charge for both. Will not say I will never go back because never say never....but it will be about fifth on the downtown list.
