It keeps getting easier and easier to not stay or play there.

Ha ha! They just don't get it. Juuussst when they miiiggghhht start drawing people toward their property they go ahead and shoot their other foot, after initially shooting their foot from their initial get go.

They just dont understand that struggling businesses cant get away with stuff like that. They must be comparing themselves with Ceasars and thinking they are too cheap resort fee wise.

What a farce !!! #1 --- What in the hell do they have at the Plaza anyway, in order to even have a "resort" fee, much less "RAISE" it ????
#2 --- I wonder how long they would keep that "resort" fee, if people just stopped staying there ? There are definitely better places to stay downtown than at the Plaza.

Is the resort fee waive when a room is comped?

Just to introduce a little logic here.

First, the disclaimer. Resorts fees suck, it is an exploitable loophole that will hopefully be closed before too long. But for now, they're not going anywhere.

That said, I've read dozens and dozens of articles, blogs, forum posts and responses that can all be summarized as "as long as you know about it, you can add to the quoted price to compare one property's rate to another.

So from the angle that a resort fee is part of the rate... In this case, the increase appears to be about $5. You guys realize that room rates at every property can vary by day? You can have seven different rates on seven days of a weekly calendar. So why does nobody protest that yet get up in arms about a resort fee increase?

If my rate quote is $45 / $45 / $75 with a $10 per day resort fee or $40 / $40 / $70 with a $15 per day resort fee... I just don't get the rationale for getting so dramatic.

I agree with what your saying in theory. As long as they drop room rates the same amount they raise resort fees it's a wash. But let's be honest they might do that at first but it won't last. Also for a place that needs to do everything possible to get people in the door they should ditch the resort fee and worry about other issues. I have seen numerous people mentionin homeless in the sports book, the strange odor inside and the overall bad vibe. Make me want to gamble there not run out the door.

Probably similar to when the D/GG enacted the fees. They'll drop their room rate to compete on websites and make it up with the resort fees. Its a scummy practice but everyone is doing it at this point.

Not everyone ..... The Cal and Main Street Station do not have any "resort fees" at all.

Did the Fremont finally succumb and install a resort fee? I always thought all 3 Boyd properties Downtown did not charge resort fees.

It's very possible that the Fremont does not have the resort fees, as you say. We've never stayed there, so I do not not know for sure.

I hope it stays this way. It's interesting that other Boyd properties like Orleans and I think Gold Coast and maybe Sam's Town charge resort fees. Understandable maybe, since these properties have theatres, entertainment venues, pools, bowling, etc. etc. Boyd must give leeway to the property mgt. as to whether they charge the fee or not?

What-ever it is, Boyd mgt. Downtown seems to have the courage so far to not follow the masses. And really, what does MSS, the Cal, and Fremont have besides offering good gambling? Resorts they are not IMHO. Just a good place to stay and gamble.

How much longer remains to be seen.
