I will be out in Vegas this February for my 30th birthday. We will be spending 2 nights on the strip and then Friday night downtown to celebrate/party. I have been wanting to stay at the Plaza since they remodeled, but I also always liked the blackjack by the pool at the Nugget, now granted, I'm sure the weather will not allow that to happen in Feb. I would still like peoples suggestions.

If you're looking for a party atmosphere, Nugget is more the place. Plaza is nearly silent inside, has no lively nightclubs (not sure what's going on at the place that replaced Swinger's Club, but if there's no buzz, then that should tell you something). If you're on a budget, stay at Plaza and hang out at Nugget. Plaza rooms would satisfy your needs.

That's what I was looking for. I've always had good luck gambling at the Plaza and was hoping the renovation was going to make it a fun/more modern place. I guess they just can't get it right. I think I will plan on staying at the Nugget.

I stayed at the Plaza in April, the remodeled rooms were very nice, new and modern, the price was really cheap. Now I heard they implemented a resort fee, so don't forget to factor that into the price. I always stay at the Golden Nugget, Carson tower is nice, and when I want to spend a little more , I splerge on the Rush tower (very nice) but I found myself gambling at the Golden Nugget because better atmosphere. In Feb the price between the Plaza and the GN (Carson Tower) should be approx. the same, I would stay at the GN. The GN also were giving 2-1 coupons for their Breakfast buffet which was very yummy.

Nugget. Love the pool there, the outside BJ is great, plus the party pit gals are gorgeous

I have stayed at both hotels. I prefer the Plaza to the GN. There is a different atmosphere at the GN that I don't like. The Plaza though not as crowded as the GN is a great place to gamble, the table games are a lot more friendlier and the dealers act like they are glad to see you are there versus the GN where most dealers act like it is a chore and why are you here, go somewhere else. I no longer gamble at the GN and I am sure they don't miss me but I enjoy gambling at a casino where the dealers make you feel like you are a honored guest and they are glad to see you. Binions has the same feel for me but that is not part of this response. Go Fer IT.

I'm so torn now. The Rush tower Jr Suites look nice. I am leaning towards that. I wish the Plaza remodel would have revived the place, I was so excited for all the stuff to open, Hash house a go go...not happy to see swingers club go, and from what it sounds like a lot of the other stuff there is not doing so well.

I stayed at the Nugget for 2 weeks this summer in the Rush Tower and loved it. I normally stay at Palazzo, from now on will be staying at the Nugget and then a couple days at Palazzo instead.

I had a Jr Suite at first, but got them to move me into a normal room as I didn't need all that space. The suites are very nice though and I really love the whole vibe at the Nugget.

Even with the upgraded rooms, Golden Nugget is much much nicer to stay at. But gamble at the Plaza -- you have a shot at winning.

I have stayed at both the Plaza and the GN and if the price is equal I would always choose the GN. The Plaza is okay if you can get a good rate, and the rooms are nicer than anywhere else that I've stayed downtown (except the GN). The rooms, service, pool/gym/spa and restaurants are all better at the GN. The Rush Tower is fantastic, with its own check-in area.
Where Plaza beats GN... the view (if you're facing Fremont) and the casino. GN's casino is more upscale looking, but Plaza offers better games (odds) at lower minimums. You also have a better chance of earning comps as a low-roller at the Plaza.

Golden Nugget for sure. Sign up on their mailing list and you will get monthly room sales that are pretty darn fair for the weekend.

In February I would imagine $69-$89 for a Saturday night.

Going from the Strip to GN is a good transition. Its a comfortable, nice property, and a nice home base when the night is over.
