They posted photos of it going up this morning. From the location of the four mounting brackets and the workers on the balconies, it appears that the giant tv will be mounted directly above the dome, covering the balconies of four guestrooms right in the center of the north towers at the 8th and 9th floors. I'm reminded of the giant screen at the base of the Stratosphere Tower.

Ah, so this is what the new resort fee is funding. :Þ

I would guess that screen is being placed in a spot so it is visible over the stage at the end of the canopy. now watch the FSE erect something to block that view.

LOL, that really stinks for those four rooms that now have the back of the video screen to stare out their windows at. Bye bye balconies and view of Fremont Street. I'd be kind of ticked off to open my curtains and see that.

I saw it on FBook also and wondered what they intend to do with them. Kind of an odd thing.

Haha. That was one of the rooms I had, where the balcony door actually opened. The view from those rooms truly were astounding. Unfortunately, so was the noise from the heavy metal band :)

That First Street stage really needs to go. There are already two other stages, plus the bar-top dancers in front of Golden Gate. Most of the time it's just used for that lady DJ in the fetish gear, which somehow attracts all the parents and their little kids, dancing amongst the drunks and homeless. Talk about a culture clash. :vomit:

It reminds me of when Bally's put up their big sign blocking the views of the Bellagio fountains from the south-facing rooms at the Barbary Coast. :Þ

You could open up the tiny casement window beside the bathtub and take in the whole show. At least you won't have to open the window to hear the show at the Main Street stage from the Plaza.

Do you think the Plaza will be silly enough to have audio blasting out to go along with the whatever they are going to put on the LCD?

That would be worse than the Fremont stage if you're staying in the hotel, at least if you're facing east.

I would doubt that. Rarely see audio going along with the LCD screens. Then again, we're talking about the Plaza, where anything can happen (and usually does).

    Sam, You are so right. I saw this last week and wondered;
    1. Why were there so many kids downtown dancing
    2. Why were the GG Dancing girls trying to compete with this DJ/Band
    3. How do the drunks manage to stay up while dancing
    4. How is it the homeless handicapped can get up out of their wheel chairs and dance, I think they were homeless, it as hard to tell.
    5. That stage actually blocks pedestrian traffic in front of the GG.
We stood in front of the VC and watched all this going on, better than a free show.

At the end of last October, Plaza erected it's own stage in the area where the outdoor seating for McDonald's is right now. They had a pre-teen dj called Baby Chino, playing blaring rap music to try to drown out the First Street stage within spitting distance. And in front of the Plaza stage were parents with their toddlers and little ones, dancing to this noise. It was deafening and repulsive to see. I wrote a complaint to Plaza urging them to get rid of the stage and refrain from attracting children at that late hour and causing a noise war. Of course I got the generic "thank you for your input, but we also got positive feedback as well" response. Thankfully, the stage was gone by my next stay.

I have yet to hear one positive thing about that stage, no one likes it and it is not a real draw. They used to have some different type of acts that would draw some attention, motorcycles in a ball or guys doing the trash can pounding thing. Now it's just a pain!

Agreed. Although I think this complaint belongs in a separate thread having to do with FSE, as I dont think the Plaza has anything to do with it. In fact, they probably hate it, seeing all the complaints from guests in their hotel. Not at all their fault. The only people I have seen enjoying this bandstand have always been young kids, with a few adults laughing. Not really the clientel that any of the FSE casinos would benefit from IMO. Although I have found myself standing there watching and shaking my head on occasion. Now the death ball motorcycle thing, was a bit farther down toward Mermaids, and I do think it drew a more diverse crowd that might go into casinos......

I am trying to think where the big tv would be to block the balcony rooms. The Plaza view was blocked when they did the Experience, so I don't think the Plaza is stupid enough to put a big screen on Fremont just to get people in. I agreee with a lot of you when you say it's sad when parents come downtown with there kids, or all the homeless and runaways and junkies are downtown, but for any of you that have been downtown fans, that's what we like. It is always fun. I am a downtown person and always have been. If you don't want to see what is going on downtown, stay on the strip.

If you look at their facebook page you will see exactly which 4 balcony rooms the screen will block.

When the FSE was initiated, it was to benefit downtown and compete with strip properties as a destination for visitors. Now it seems the individual properties are slowly taking an approach of using the FSE as competition among themselves. Blocking line of site, one-ups-man-ship on street stage entertainment, who can be the loudest, etc... This may negatively affect the downtown tourist draw, especially for repeat business, and may even put a few marginal properties in jeapordy. That's a 180 degree turn around from their original concept. IMHO.

The street stage entertainment is done by FSE, not the casinos. I cant think of anything the blocks sight lines, except for that screen on the Plaza, and they are only blocking their own view, not anyone elses.
