My wife and I were comped a Hollywood Hip room for 3 nights. I was wondering if it would be worth it to try the $20 upgrade trick and if so what room would we ask for!

Just ask for a strip view

Seems to work pretty well at PH.
Have fun--it's one of our fav comped spots to stay!!

I have gotten upgraded for the $20 dollar trick to a Resort Vista Room. Very nice room compared to the Hip Room. I would ask for that again or a Strip Suite.

When we did it we asked for a fountain-view room and got it. If I tried again I'd ask for resort vista and have the fountain view from the bathtub. That said, I've heard of people getting panorama suites. Since it's a midweek booking, you'd probably have a better-than-average shot at it.

I have stayed at PH on my last 7 trips. Be realistic with you expectations and you will be fine. They rarely/don't upgrade anyone to suites as it is mostly handled by casion marketing. Strip view/resort rooms are definitely a possibility.

Hip rooms are a bit cramped IMO. Best way to ensure you get the better room - pay for it.

So you're saying paying for a room is not the best way to ensure you get the room type you want?

    Please enlighten me.

There is many ways in Vegas to get anything you want at discounted prices. There is a reason this website has a thread dedicated to using a $20 bill to get upgrades which hundreds of people can confirm works. Vegas is a town that is driven by tips ! It's not an insult to you, there is just other ways.....sometimes more fruitful to accomplish things.

Well, I'm well aware of the "tricks" or what have you. I'm simply saying that if someone wants to be 100% certain of receiving a certain room type - the only way is to offer payment.

On one trip last year we got a Resort Vista with a strip view. It was heaven. Never hurts to ask. On our next trip they wanted $50 a night for it we declined.

When I checked into PH on a trip last summer I tried it, and the guy behind the counter chuckled and said, "oh, that won't be necessary, sir" and pushed it back to me, then upgraded me.
