I just got back from an impromptu night at Aria and was disgusted by what they did to their blackjack offerings. I used to be able to find $25 minimums in the morning at their S17 tables but no longer. It was 8:30 in the morning and the lowest was $50 and the pit boss wouldn't make a $25 min. table, even with only 2 people playing in the entire pit with at least 6 tables open. The kicker is that every other table in the place was 6:5! (Even the video blackjack is 6:5) I ended up walking to bellagio where you can still find I nice $25 S17 game in the morning.

I noticed you referenced the S17 tables. In my recent experience, Aria has $50 S17 tables and $25 H17 tables in the mornings, in the pit directly across from Jean-Phillippe; in the evenings, the S17 tables go up to $100 and the H17 tables go to $50. The 6:5 tables are on the other side of that pit and in the two northern pits, closer to check-in. As much as I'd like to be able to play S17 consistently, my recollection is that those tables have almost always been $50+ even before the introduction of 6:5 tables. There were occasionally $25 S17 tables, but those were the exception rather than the rule, even in the mornings.

This was my recollection as well. The S17 were only occasionally $25 at slow times like the morning. But I'm pretty sure I checked all the other tables and they were now 6:5. This change might have happened on the 15th with all the other mlife changes. I'd be happy if I were wrong though. I was there on the 28th and 29th.

I'm hoping to be there next month and will take a look. I know that Aria has definitely downgraded their offerings in the last couple months, but I still find them better than just about anywhere else at the $25-50 level. And I'd definitely recommend walking around that pit by J-P, the pit on the other side (by Javier's), and the two northern pits, both of which are almost all CSM, are definitely all 6:5, which kills me.

The expansion of 6:5 BJ is no fun, but the free market isn't helping any because most people will still play without missing a beat, I see people sit at VP stations that have BJ and it only pays even money and they will run tons of money into it. Downtown has good rules even at low levels though, hopefully they keep them to compete with the strip.

Absolutely, I sometimes fantasize about walking up to one of those 6:5 tables and making some dramatic statement about the short payout upon which everyone there would stand up and leave in silent solidarity never to return again. In reality I'd probably get a lot of looks like I'm the crazy one!

Those games are still there but no $25 in the am when I was there. Yes, you're right, the h17 games are in another pit but it looked to me like they were all 6:5.

It is a bit odd, but one thing I do like about it is they finish the shoe if there is a dealer change, rather than shuffle

I'd be willing to bet that's a dealer thing. When SLS first opened they dealt the DD by hand, but switched over to a shoe within a few months; apparently most of the dealers hated doing it by hand, and the casino gave in to the request to switch over to a shoe. It didn't help that some of the dealers with smaller hands had issues physically holding the deck the right way.

I believe that they deal the DD out of a shoe because they did not want the players touching the cards anymore.

I accidentally sat down at one of those on my last trip assuming that the $25 table couldn't possibly be 6:5. Oops! The dealer was very understanding when I got up and left after only a few hands when I got my first BJ and realized it was 6:5. Unfortunately or fortunately there wasn't anyone at the table with me when I left in protest.
