I currently have a car rental booked with Dollar and while looking around I found that I can get Payless even cheaper. I have been reading reviews on a few different company's and they all seem to be negative. Any recent reviews on Payless (or while we are at it even Advantage)? Is Payless for sure at the rental car center? Thanks for any help. Dan

Avoid payless like the plague. They are notorious for adding on fees and telling you that they are "mandatory". Last August, I noticed they had added the pre-paid fuel option to my rental, when I questioned it they said that it could not be removed (at the time of rental), but they would remove it if the rental was returned with a full tank. Fortunately, the car remote did not work so I returned it after driving around about 30 minutes, the reason I say fortunately was because it wasn't until I was picking up the replacement car that I noticed they also automatically added roadside protection (even though I had told them I did not need it). After convincing the manager that I did not need prepaid fuel or roadside, he finally removed them. He informed me that on future rentals, the roadside protection would be mandatory....I thought, "Does this guy really think there is going to be a future rental?" I will never use Payless again.... a few dollars saved can not make up for starting a Las Vegas trip on a sour note. I also had to wait about 30 minutes for the replacement car and dropped a class in car just to get out of the facility and start enjoying my vacation.

I have used Advantage two of the three prior trips and had no problems, they will ask 2-3 times for the additional items, but give up after the 2nd or 3rd no. Both cars from Advantage were clean and I believe had 12-15,000 miles.

I have rented from Payless in Las Vegas numerous times. Confirmed that they are located at the airport rental facility.

Yes, make sure when you look at your bill you check it with a fine toothed comb, especially if the dollar amount does not come out to the same amount they quoted you when you made your reservation. My first time I asked the clerk why the amount was different and she said that it was normal for price to be a little higher (it isn't!) when you pick up the car. NO, IT ISN'T NORMAL!!!!

After that I always make sure the amount was EXACTLY the same as when I made my reservation. If it isn't I always go through my statement and have them remove any excess fees. I will stay and spend the extra time looking through the bill just to find the discrepancy. One time I also had them remove the excess fees like daily lockout charge and roadside protection. Those aren't required at all.

While I didn't have major problems my friend (and others here) did have problems where the clerk added on charges and said that they were "mandatory". Sometimes the clerk would say that the manager wasn't available and try to speed you through the process. After he got home my friend contested his extra charges with his charge card company. The cc company deducted the extra charge and Payless didn't protest (my friend showed them a copy of the reservation so they knew exactly what he was quoted).

Nowadays I will first check with the national chains (like thrifty and Alamo), also check on the Costco travel web site for bargains. I will still make a reservation with Payless but usually I am able to find as good deals with the other agencies. For the same price or a few bucks more I would avoid Payless but if I can't find better deals I would rent from Payless.

Beware, the lines at Payless are usually longer and slower than the other national agencies. I guess it is because they usually try to have the lowest rates and so many people book through them. So you may have to wait in line (sometimes up to an hour) to get your car since they don't have many clerks working (in addition to the clerks trying to push all the extra fees on you). You also don't have any selection for cars, they assign you the car at the counter and if you have a problem you have to check with the attendant to see if there are other cars available (there aren't any). Because they have a limited car supply I have seen people/families wait for their rental car (in their reserved size) to be returned by the previous renters.

I also rented from Advantage and I will be renting from Advantage for my January trip. Like Payless, you also have to watch your bill and make sure they don't add on any extra charges (But I usually do that with all my rentals from all agencies). Advantage may have more selection of cars over Payless and if you contest the extra fees they won't hassle you and will usually remove the extra bogus charges if you keep repeating that you don't want them. (Payless will still try to sell you the extras and will spend a little time trying to convince you to get them).

We just used Payless in Vegas a few weeks ago. NEVER AGAIN. We rent cars all over the country frequently and am happy to say we have never had a problem before. We had Natasha for our rental agent and that woman was unpleasant from our first words. Why they would keep someone like her employed to work with their customers is astonishing. We had made a prepaid reservation for a midsize car and she gave us a Volkswagon Beetle. I told her no way could a Beetle be a midsize car and she got even snottier and insisted that it most certainly was. We decided not to argue with her since we were anxious to start our vacation and just took the car. After returning home, I got our credit card statement and had a charge on it for $7.75 from Payless. Disputed it with my credit card company and they immediately removed it even though they said it was a swiped card transaction with a signature placed on the day of the rental car return. They certainly never swiped my card nor did I sign anything upon return of the car. Just not worth it to rent from them to save a few bucks. I know we will never rent from them at any location again.

Thanks for the information. From everything I have read I will be staying away from Payless.

We have used Enterprise, National and Sixt when we are in Vegas and we never had an issue with any of them. Drawback with Sixt is they are down the street from the main rental center and you need to call to get the shuttle to come pick you up.

If you have a Bconnected card with Boyd casinos, you can get a 7% discount on Advantage car rental. I've used them a couple times with no problems.

You have to log into Bconnected and book the Advantage rental through their site.

We have used them all in Vegas. We now always use Alamo for a couple of reasons. 1) cars seem to be in much better shape 2) I can normally always get Alamo with in $20 of the other places(I book early and then keep checking up until flight out) and Alamo only holds the amount of the expected rental. All others seem to hold an extra $200-300, that just irritates me. 3) we have had success with booking a standard and then getting bumped to a small SUV
