Just curious, my husband and I are strictly cash and carry so to speak. Is it a problem paying cash when you check in at the hotel? Specifically Luxor where we are staying.

No problem to pay cash but most will require a credit card for potential incidentals. I believe most will take a cash deposit for that though if you don't have a card.

I only use cash in LV (or on the road). Yes, virtually every hotel wants a card to ensure all the charges you could make are covered. But, as mentioned in this thread, a deposit will do fine.

I wouldn't think it is an issue especially in a cash-centric town like Vegas.

But how do you put a deposit down on your room... like to hold it?

Otherwise I don't see why it would be an issue.

I used a debit card for the first night. I just do not like using a debit card when we travel. Paperposter is there something about the Luxor I should know about??? Just curious.....

I think he means that in his mind the quality of Luxor as a hotel isn't that good, so they have to pay people to stay there.. :evillaugh

I had a tower room last month and it was actually very nice. I have seen the Pyramid rooms, and they sucked. Just one thing about Luxor- be prepared to walk, and walk. When you think you have walked far enough, you have to walk some more. Go see Carrot Top while you are there, he does a whole bit about the walking in Vegas, and hes hilarious.

The walk can't be as bad as the walk from the casino to a corner suite at Aria....

I used to have to get 2 road-rockets from the cocktail waitress if I had to go back up to the room to avoid the risk of dehydration or worse yet, sobering up during the journey :)

Not sure if this helps the original poster..
Typically I make a reservation with the hotel... check in (show the card I used to make the reservation).... charge everything to the room... when it's time to check out, make sure to wait in line and check out... I tell them I want to pay cash or even split the bill with cash along with a card. Has never been a problem before although I do get the impression each time that it's uncommon for most guests to pay cash.

I found those rooms completely fine! But I would never stay in the pyramid, and it's not all that far.. not compared to some of the walks I've had in Vegas.

The west tower was a haul. I, too have had worse, but it still is a jaunt. I used both self park and valet. Valet was the long walk I am referring to. I did love the place and would stay again.

Of the trips I have taken to Vegas I paid with cash 3 times. I book the room with my credit card (normally no charges if the first night or 2 are comped) check in using the credit card and when I check out I do so at the counter paying cash. Just say say you want to defer your payment from the credit card and you will be paying cash. I have never had a problem in fact you would be surprised how many people actually pay with cash for their rooms.

I am the exact opposite, I prefer to put everything on my credit card then pay the bill weekly. The protection I get from the credit card makes it all worth while for me, plus the miles I earn for travel. Also if someone steals my credit card or number or makes fraudulent charges a simple phone calls gets them reversed.

I was once out of town for a week and lost my credit card. I called the company and they overnighted me a new one so I wasn't without for the whole trip.

I usually book online the hotel and when I get there I show them my card that its booked on and when I check out I pay with cash, nothing gets charged on the card
