I'm in the middle of major planning/research mode for an upcoming trip in April. So far only booked a couple nights at Cosmo (fountain view to really impress the wife) and trying to decide where to stay for the last 3 nights. Need to make a decision soon when, lo and behold, I get a mailer from Palms yesterday with 2 comped in nights good from March to July! Perfect!

Granted, I did email them a couple weeks ago as we stayed for one night there 3 years ago but stopped getting mail from them a while back. I really didn't expect to hear anything from them - especially a comped room! Really looking forward to it... We enjoy getting off strip for a few nights - just seems easier to relax and feel comfortable in the casino without the non-stop foot traffic IMO. Way to go Palms team!

Should be a good combo: 2 nights at Cosmo in the heart of it all to start the trip then 3 nights comped (probably have to pay for one) at the Palms for R&R and better gambling...

I still see mixed reviews for Cosmo here, any input from anyone with recent stays?

    Thanks everyone!

Really there are mixed reviews for both and pretty much every property as everyone's tastes differ. There will be those that hate the party atmosphere of Cosmo or the higher gaming minimums or bad odds. Then you will have strip lovers that think you're crazy to stay anywhere off strip even if comped and especially crazy if you pay for it. And everywhere in between from property-specific haters to someone who was over charged by $.25 for a drink and swears they'll never go back.

With that said, for your intentions I think these seem to fit you well. Cosmo is still alive and full of energy and the Palms has quieted down a ton since it was party central years ago. As for quality, both have nice, clean rooms and good dining experiences.

I like the Palms. As said above it's not nearly what it used to be and for me that's fine. It's a small casino with friendly dealers. Sometimes $5 craps. The rooms are nice. Free shuttle to the strip (you can also just walk over to GC or Rio and use their shuttles).

I often split my trips with 2 or 3 nights Cosmo and 2 or 3 nights Palms. I've become a big fan of Palms over the past couple years and have stayed regularly. The staff is fantastic, bartenders are awesome, great dining choices. I really like the renovated Ivory Tower. I really like the late night gambler specials at the 24/7 and they have all day prime rib special $7.99 with players club card. Enjoy your trip!

I have had great VP luck there over the years. I don't visit as often as I would if it was on the strip of course. It is nice to see someone getting some love from the place!
