i'll be participating in my first ever baccarat tournament on Sept26-29 in the Grand Dragon Master Baccarat.

I know how to play the game down pat, bankroll management etc in regular cash games. Us versus Casino.

Im not taking it too serious, as this is my first time & i'll treat it as a learning experience as i hope to be playing in a lot more bac tourneys in the future.

I do want to get some idea of what it will be like, i also have read some of Natedog's trip reports of his bac tournament play requires some additional unique strategies

    I found this:
    http://www.worldgamingmag.com/en/gaming/baccarat/item/163-how-to-win-a-baccarat-tournament-part-a-general-concepts

Any tips and pointers for bac tourneys?

    thanks in advance.

With the amount of rebuys in that tournament, I wouldnt plan on doing much else. Thats going to be a loooong tournament with all those players and rebuys.

Good luck with the tournament. Be sure to post how you did and what you observed. I'm told by others who have done Bac tournaments that the strategy is completely different than what you would normally do. Would be very interested in what you think after your experience.

    Golden Dragon Baccarat Tournament

I participated in the tournament last weekend. I have the tournament rules for the Golden Dragon tournament and some additional information on the later rounds. If you have any specific questions just let me know.

In the Golden Dragon (Sept 26-29, Oct 3-6):
Grazie members are offered a minimum of one, some up to three, complimentary entries per day, based on their offer. Unlimited re-buys are $50.
You swipe your Grazie card at a table and get a ticket/s you use to enter the tournament play area. You don't preregister, you can walk up and play anytime during the tournament.
Each player receives $50,000 in chips. Minimum bet is $1,000 maximum $50,000 on Banker or Player. Minimum bet is $1,000 maximum $5,000 on the Tie or Pairs Bets.
Ten hands are played. Every hand must be played and a wager placed on either the Player or Banker, not just the Tie or Pairs bet.
The top three players each day, based on single session chip totals, of the 8 days of the Golden Dragon, advance to the Ruby Dragon Semi-Finals on October 12.
The prize pool is $240,000, with $30,000 in daily prize money.
    1st place - $15,000, 2nd place - $4,600, 3rd place - $2,000, 8th place - $800, 4th-80th place (except 8th) - $100 each
Prizes are awarded nightly in cash.
Single session chip totals showing the top 80 for the day are updated and displayed on screens at the tournament area.

Top session scores were over $400,000. Minimum to be in the top 80 varied by day, but was around $200,000. Many players went all in during the early hands to either increase their chip total a lot or be eliminated for running out of chips. Another strategy was to bet big on the Tie or Pairs Bets. You needed to take some risks to get your score up, playing conservatively would get you to the end of the session, but not get your total high enough to win.

    Ruby Dragon Baccarat Tournament

I have just a little information on the later rounds:

Ruby Dragon Baccarat Preliminaries (Oct 9-11)
    Finals (Oct 12)

Grazie members again receive one complimentary entry per day.
Re-buys at $250 each during preliminaries.

    $350,000 total prize pool

$50,000 daily prize pool in the 3 days of preliminaries

$200,000 prize pool in the finals

Top 6 finishers in the Ruby Tournament receive complimentary entry into the $1 million Royal Tournament to be held in November.

Royal Tournament is by invitation only. Entry fee/re-buy $5,000 each.

Top 3 from the Royal Tournament advance to the Global Tournament in Singapore in March, 2015, with a $4 million prize pool. Entry is by advancement from the Royal Tournament or by invitation only.
