Leaving for Vegas on Jan 31 and will need a hotel for one night. Possibly wanted to try somewhere off-strip. Have stayed at the Orleans and enjoyed it, but thought about the Palace Station as an option. Any thoughts on the hotel, gaming, etc?

Gaming is good. Good selection of playable VP and slots. Can't comment on tables. If your staying there, make sure you are in the tower. It's been a couple years since iv'e been there but the courtyard/poolside rooms were in rough shape.

It's not luxury but perfectly adequate and the food wasn't bad.

Stayed in their tower rooms once, it was a few years ago mind, but I thought it was OK for the price. They used to have a shuttle that goes to fashion show mall every hour or so, dont know if it is still on though.
Slots & VP were good to me here, hit a hand pay for $2700 and various others for $400 - $1100 below the hand pay threshold.
As previously said, dont go with the "garden" rooms, the tower rooms were about $15-20/night more but worth it.

After the resort fee is added in to the equation the Orleans would be a better and cheaper alternative. I stayed there once and will never stay there again.
Maybe try the Gold Coast right next to the Rio and in a much better neighborhood. Or the Palms.

Yeah, I guess I should add that my total was 38/nt including the "resort" fee. Which may be why I was as content as I was. If I were looking at 50+ per night. I wouldnt consider it. There are too many other options at that price level.

I have to agree, when you do kayak (and other web site) searches the Palace station pops up as one of the lower priced hotels but when you add in the resort fees the price comes out to around other hotels like Orleans, GC, etc (or higher).

Appreciate all of the advice. May have swayed me back to the Orleans. Will see what kind of rate we get from the Palace Station.

The Orleans is my favorite off-strip property, good looking waitresses, decently low table minimums, good liquor store and decently nice rooms.
