My husband is hooked on oysters since a trip to New Orleans last year. We will be hitting Vegas in early May. I know PJ Clarks in Ceasars has closed and they had oysters for happy hour.... anyone have suggestions for other places to try - on the strip, downtown, or not too far from either? Thanks for any suggestions!

We haven't been in about 5 years now, but Big Al's was always good. They also had a very tasty jambalaya.

We tried The Oyster Bar in Harrah's last trip.
I had Oysters Royale. It was wasabi caviar and creme fraiche on the raw oysters. Man oh man, it was great! I had never had that green wasabi caviar/roe stuff before. It was perfect on those oysters.

That recent "Cheap Eats" article brought to my attention the fact that Emeril's New Orleans Fish House at MGM has oysters on the half shell at the bar for $1.50 each from 2:00-6:00 pm. I'm hoping to try it out this weekend/early next week.

We discovered PJ Clark's last year ($1 per oyster) and were very disappointed to hear they closed. But Emeril's is good at $1.50 per oyster and we also love the Oyster Bar in Harrah's which has many other good dishes to try....also their grilled oysters are fantastic and a good way to start into oysters if you're afraid of trying raw oysters. Best advice, drink a lot then try oysters :) ......they also have oyster shooters that are good.

Very dissapointing to hear pj clarkes's closed. We enjoyed the $1 oysters the last two years. Will hit up emerils for 50% more. That would still be worth it.

While we're on the subject of oysters, any of those joints have them deep fried in batter/crumbs?

I have not seen that in any of the finer restaurants in Vegas.....the only places I have ever seen them (not Vegas) was some cheap places that did a lot of frying only foods. I did always enjoy them but haven't had deep fried oysters in many years.

Oyster bar at Palace Station. I don't think they have a happy hour but I believe they end up around $1.50 each if you get a dozen. They are very good but expect a long wait as there are only about 20 seats total.
I always plan on hitting emeril's at mgm for their $1.50 happy hour but never seem to make it. A friend of mine has been there and says it is very good.
Another place i havent tried but have heard good things about is todd's english pub in city center. They have a $2 happy hour

Does the Oyster Bar at Harrahs still have a happy hour? I didn't see anything on their website or Las Vegas happy hour website.

Not sure about happy hour at Harrah's but this is a must try spot. Between the 4 of us we tried...the clam chowder...scallops...risotto...crab legs...lobster tails...and pretty much all the ways they serve their oysters...the raw and the grilled are awesome....my mom loved the oysters casino and rockafeller. Had a few shooters. If I knew how to post my pictures I would. Moon was our waiter....very friendly and didn't write anything down...superb service. I will always make time to come back here during every trip from now on. I have said it before...but this IS a hidden gem.

Thanks. Same here. I can't remember having them since my mother made them. I'm not a fan of raw oysters or oyster stew, but used to love those fried oysters she made.

Zenshin at South Point has them on their happy hour menu from 2:00-6:00 pm. I tried them on my last trip. It was my first time having fried oysters and I didn't like them at all, but maybe that's how fried oysters always taste. It was the only thing I didn't like of all the items we sampled.

Great news. Comme Ca is considered one of the top 20 restaurants in town and I have yet to go. With this oysters special I don't have any excuses any more.

Thanks for the info, sonyhog. Funny thing....I've eaten at the Oyster Bar at Harrahs a couple of times and never noticed them. Always just glanced at the oyster section because I figured they were all raw.

Staying at Harrahs in Apr. I'll have to try them.
