So, walking around thr Strip this morning...what is upwith the escalators? Walked from MGM to SLS and I would guess 85% of the escalators are out of order. There are a lot of people on the Strip today using the small stairwells. I know we had a bit of rain last night, but do they all shut down after rain? I guess I will just have to hang around this block (Flamingo,Linq,Harrahs) for a bit...

They shut down in all sorts of weather. They're not reliable. There's a project under way to fix them and add some new ones. Probably 5+ yrs before we see anything though, unless the casinos take action (or someone dies crossing the street because they couldn't/wouldn't walk up the stairs).

they are very old and parts arent obtainable for them so they have to be custom made when they break, being out doors doesnt help either, takes time and money...but there was a article last year about replacing all of them with new up to date ones

High heat and desert sand is what I have been told causes the frequent breakdowns. Not sure the truths behind that. I tend to take the stairs anyway. I have a bit of a down-scalator fear of falling especially when drinking.
