    My Trip Report

This trip was planned for a fun vow renewal to celebrate our 10th Anniversary which was actually on January 21st. We were in Aruba for our actual Anniversary with two of our dear friends, a couple who frequently travel to Aruba and stay with us at our timeshare. They were also among our group of friends who joined us in Vegas.

Originally we'd kicked the idea of doing a beach vow renewal in Aruba around but it is a pricey trip in January high season and we really wanted our dearest friends to be able to celebrate with us so what better than a "cheesy" Elvis Vow Renewal in Vegas.

    Flight
Direct from Toronto to Vegas on Westjet. We arrived May 15th in the morning. My BIL and SIL arrived on the 14th. 5 of our friends arrived on the 15th at 5 pm and 3 arrived on the 15th at 10:30 pm. 10 friends, hubby and I.

Flight to Vegas was on time and uneventful.....with the exception of the lady sitting in front of me that kept throwing her long hair over the back of the seat. Really? WTF is the matter with people? We were up at stupid o'clock to get to the airport because, believe it or not, on May 15th after some very warm days, snow was forecast and we got it! I wasn't feeling particularly accommodating and wanted to nip that long locks nastiness in the bud. Hubby wanted me to take a photo for the air passenger shaming website. Well that would be one option but a handy pair of scissors and a quick trim would be another. Finally, after about the third of fourth time she flung her hair over the seat, I flung it back. Fortunately long locks took the hint.

With a big group and lots of running around, I didn't take any notes so this won't be a play by play.......I will just categorize.

    Hotel
We stayed all 5 nights at Palms. We were to be comped in an Ivory Suite and were able to get our guests a rate of $39/night for rooms in the Ivory Tower.

We had been invited to check in at VIP Registration but our suite wasn't ready on arrival; the Saturday night before was sold out as the International Bikini Contest was being held at The Palms. Very sad for the men in our entourage to have to endure but they powered through. Good thing I got the invitations to our guests out early so everyone secured a reservation! Palms was hopping all week.

We left our bags and played VP for a few hours and maaaaaany mimosas. No text about our room, so we checked, still not ready. A few more hours of VP and mimosas and the Ivory Suite still wasn't ready so we were upgraded to the Celebrity Suite.

I honestly prefer the decor, newness and location of the Ivory Suite but the Celebrity Suite in the Fantasy Tower did work better as a gathering location for our group. 7 televisions, 3 bathrooms and more importantly, the bar! We had a lot of laughs in this gathering spot and I liked not sharing a bathroom with hubby.

Shortly after we arrived in our suite, a bottle of champagne and strawberries arrived and we popped it! Just what we needed, more champagne. We really should have eaten but decided to wait until the first group arrived.

Hubby went to Gold Coast to stock the bar and got back just as the 5 pm arrivals started texting. By the time the 10:30 friends arrived.....there's a big champagne fuzziness to my memory.

I did work a Wicked Winnings II machine up to $1113.00. I ended the first night up just over $1400.

A cash count, photos on my phone and text messages helped me piece together the early hours of he morning. It happens :)

    Dining

Cafe 6 at Palms - We ate here the first night. It is located where Simon's used to be and is very good, casual dining, large portions.

N9ne - We ate here twice and it was excellent!! Everyone enjoyed their meals and the service was excellent. If you go, the short rib ravioli appetizer is a must try! Can't wait to have it again in July.

Alizé - We held our vow renewal dinner here on Tuesday. Beautiful setting and strip views atop the Ivory Tower. 5* all around for ambience, service and food excellence. It remains among my favourite Vegas restaurants. I worked with a lady named Jana to make all the arrangements in the months prior and she was wonderful. I'd highly recommend Alizé for an intimate dinner or group event.

Nove Italiano - Beautiful setting atop the Fantasy Tower, excellent service, very good meal. The potato gnocchi appetizer is excellent. We ate here on our final night and I was exhausted; I hit a wall and had to nap after dinner. A first for me in Vegas.

Breakfast Buffet at Bistro Buffet in Palms - What the hell happened here? We all received a daily comped breakfast buffet but many of us quit using it after the second day. With the exception of the omelette station which was good and where we first saw Hugh Hefner, the rest was blah! I used to really enjoy the breakfast buffet and brunch here. Perhaps Stations will resurrect it.

PBR Rock Bar - I had a Groupon. 6 of the group went for lunch. I didn't know what to expect but it was very good. The wait staff were awesome! We had an absolute blast here and enjoyed the food and the big ass beers! I would definitely go for lunch again. The Groupon was for 4 but they didn't care; they simply deducted the full $80 from our bill.

24/7 @ Palms - Good varied menu, open as it says 24/7. We always enjoy meals here for casual dining. The steak and eggs hits the spot in the wee hours of the morning.

Earl - Hubby and I always have the Holiday Sandwich in Vegas. It's become tradition.

    Vow Renewal

    Hair and Make-up
Recharge Salon at Palms, stylist Tori. She was lovely and I enjoyed a glass of champagne while Tori did my hair. It held up pretty well as I did a lot of running around before the renewal and it was hot.

Limo Service - we booked the party bus with Presidential. It didn't arrive on time, very unusual for Presidential, and I noticed they'd called and left a message. There was a mechanical problem with the party bus so 2 stretch limos were being sent for the ride to the chapel and they would have a party bus at the chapel after the renewal. I booked 2 hours. The original booking came with 2 bottles of "champagne" (we brought along additional beverages). Because of the problem with the bus, we were given unlimited champagne and could have had an additional full 2 hours in the party bus after the renewal. We used 1.5 of it as we had the reservation at Alize. The party bus is a great way to tour the strip; we did with a stop for photos at the Welcome to Vegas sign. This was the first time in 34 years of going to Vegas that I actually had a photo taken at the sign.

Graceland Chapel for Vow Renewal - What a blast! Our "Elvis" was extremely personable and did a great Elvis. Everyone had a blast. Lots of fun and laughter. The photographer was very good. Afterwards, my husband said he wished we'd done that the first time around....to be honest, so do I.

One of my friends was "a bit over served" during the day and you'll notice in one of the photos, she reached out to try to grab Elvis' butt. Thankfully she didn't connect. The limo driver didn't fare as well. He took it well and we kept our eye on her the rest of the night.

    Shows

Raiding the Rock Vault - We purchased tickets for the group through Groupon. I've seen the show several times but it was a first for everyone except my butt grabbing friend. Everyone really enjoyed it. I've been lucky as Doug Aldridge has been performing each time I've seen the show.

    Celebrity Meeting

I saw Hugh Hefner at the buffet the morning after we arrived. He was approached by many and was posing for photos.

On Wednesday morning my friend texted she was heading down for a coffee, was I up? Hubby was still sleeping and I'd been lazing around surfing the net so I threw some clothes on and took my bed head down to the casino to get a coffee with her. We sat at the slots to play while were drinking our coffee and I noticed Hugh Hefner approaching right where I sat so I got up to speak to him and asked if we could get a photo taken. In hindsight, I wish I'd fixed myself up before heading down but coffee was calling and I had planned a grab and go. Same shit happens if you pop into the grocery store sans make-up, every damn person you ever knew will be there, but I digress. We asked a man sitting beside us to take the photo. As Hugh was walking away it clicked and he said "was that Hugh Hefner?" When we told him it was, his daughter ran after him to see if she could get a photo too. He came back and I took a couple of her and her Dad with Hef. Nice guy. He was very friendly. No invite to the mansion though.....at just shy of 55 I'd need a time machine for that to happen.

My friend and I with Hef. She didn't grab his butt. I held my breath on that one.

    Gambling and The Rest

Our group was wonderful in that all were able to keep themselves entertained and go off to do their own thing without always having to have something planned. Everyone seemed to let everyone know what they were up to and if you wanted to join in great, if not we met up later. Some went to Hoover Dam, a couple took a helicopter tour to Grand Canyon, some golfed. Hubby and I were able to spend time with everyone. As many were newbies, we did a lot of strip walking and casino hopping and lots of gambling along the way.

I played mostly slots, VP and Blackjack. My biggest win was the $1113.00 on Wicked Winnings. There were a couple of Royals in our group, one was a 25 cent progressive just under $1200. It was the friend I travel to Vegas with frequently (butt grabber) and it was her first. She and I head back to Vegas July 9th. I'm making her keep her hands in her pockets ;)

In the end, I came home down $1200. Lots of hits of a couple hundred here and there but no big wins! Hubby hit $800 and change on a Buffalo at Cosmo; that was his biggest single hit. He came home down $1500 but I'm guessing only half of that was gambling.

    Sports Bar at Palms

This became another gathering spot for us. I spend a lot of time there when in Vegas and have gotten to know all the bartenders. They are the friendliest group I've experienced in recent years and they treated our group very well. Both friends got their Royals here; one was the progressive on DDB, the other got a natural Royal on deuces wild. Both got them holding 3. My last Royal was at this bar too.

An interesting thing happened. I was sitting with one of my female friends at the bar the afternoon of the vow renewal playing VP. I looked over to say something to her and a woman zero'd in on me as she approached the bar and started chatting. She then sat on the other side of me and began flirting. I'm looking at my friend like " help me out here" and she's just laughing. I started to ignore her constant chatter and focused intently on my machine hoping she'd leave. I was sure she was going to ask for a loan or something. Finally she moved down a couple seats and started talking to a man. About 10 minutes later we noticed them walking out together at the exit toward Palms Place. Hmmmmmmmmmm.

We had so much fun on this trip with our friends. Great group of friends, great food and drink, laughter and memories. God willing, hubby and I will celebrate another 10 years with our friends and a repeat performance. I am quite certain, new Vegas addictions were born on this trip.

Here's a photo of the Celebrity Suite off the web; I took the suite photos with my camera and only had a few on my phone. Haven't downloaded camera photos yet. This gives a better view of the living area.

Thanks for sharing this, Bre! What a wonderful trip. That suite looks great for a gathering.

My friend did an Elvis renewal in Vegas and also said she and her husband wished they had done it the first time. Hmm. Might be a lesson in there somewhere. ;)

Hmmmmmmmm, you may be right Geogran!

Thanks for reading everyone. The suite did work very well for entertaining; in hindsight the Ivory Suite would have been cramped when we were all together.

Thanks D. Sorry we didn't catch up with you on the trip but it was very busy.

I got lucky with the dress; I ordered it online from Saks so was happy it fit and didn't need alterations.
