First Vegas trip report! Just returned from a one night whirlwind trip. We landed at 1pm on Wednesday and left at 1pm on Thursday. I took my fiancee to see Mariah Carey for her birthday, and she wanted to sneak in some craps as well. Once we landed, we ubered to Bally's and got our keys immediately. Went straight up to the room to pour a scotch and shower off the plane ride. Hit the floor straight away and instead of looking for a craps table, my fiancee surprised me by telling me she wanted to learn how to play video poker. I've always loved the game and she's never expressed much interest. I said ok, and we sat down at a $1 machine. On her third deal, she held two 7's and got handed the other two for quads right off the bat. I was speechless. As I turned back to my machine to play, still commenting to her how rare that was, I hit quads myself! Afterward, we walked to the Bellagio buffet. After eating far too much, we went to the Caesars sportsbook to bet a baseball game and walk the Forum Shops for a bit. She wanted to play more VP since she was successful earlier, so we played for another hour at Caesar's. Hit another couple quads during that time! The doors opened for Mariah Carey and we went inside. Our seats were spectacular and she was fun. I'm not personally a big fan of hers, but it's always inspiring to see a group of passionate people getting excited over something. After the show, we went back to Bally's so she could change out of her dress and into her brand new Mariah Carey souvenir t-shirt and jeans. We wanted to dress down a bit so we'd be a little more comfortable at...Ellis Island! I'd heard good things about this casino from people on this board, and we checked it out. It wound up being our favorite experience of the whole trip. Our plan was to finally shoot craps, but the table was empty when we arrived. We decided to plunk down at another VP machine so she could "practice" more while we waited on the table to fill up. We spent the evening sampling all their brewed beers and hitting a couple more quads. The craps table never really got busy (she enjoys the social aspect of craps more than the actual game), so we got the steak specials and a few more beers from the restaurant instead before stumbling back to Bally's. Woke up early to catch breakfast at Mon Ami Gabi. We got a patio table right along the sidewalk. Originally planned on ordering the steak frites, but as we were still full from our 2am Ellis Island steaks, we decided on eggs Benedict and a bloody mary instead. We swung by Hexx so the lady could get an ice cream cone on the way to our uber pickup, and headed back to the airport. Had some time to kill so I stuck a $20 into the .25 VP machine at the airport (I know, I know) and...hit quads again! This was my first casino trip without playing any table games at all. I'm usually a craps and blackjack guy with video poker as a nice break from all the action, but we had a blast. After three VP sessions and a short airport hit, we wound up hitting 7 quads between us. Still waiting on my first royal! We both left up a chunk of change, she learned a new game, we discovered a new casino, and we met a couple of fun people along the way. Most importantly, she enjoyed her birthday, relieved some stress, and saw her childhood hero perform live in concert. Can't wait to go back in three months for my birthday!
