Ok I know I'm not the smartest when it comes to social media. But what the hell is trolling. I have been seeing it on post on the board. I'm gonna guess it is kinda like a prank call, but please inlighten me.

No, it's trying to stir up trouble or start an argument. OP, the urban dictionary is your friend.

Trolling is posting on a message board, news site or anywhere with a "comments" section, solely with the intention of eliciting a strong emotional response or starting an argument with other members. It's pretty uncommon here....if you want some good examples, read the comments under most CNN articles.

Trolling can take on a wide variety of forms, ranging all the way from harmless comments that can actually be pretty funny (if a "skilled" troll is needling someone who's utterly clueless) to completely taboo, such as people posting hateful, vulgar messages on a memorial page for the recently deceased. What most people fail to understand is that the only efficient defense against trolling is to COMPLETELY ignore them. Getting you to engage them in the subject matter at hand is their main objective. Even by merely calling them out for trolling, you have lost and they have won.

Oh I was way off then. I was guessing it was posting a fake question to try and get responses. But I couldn't figure out why in the world anyone would do that.

Deliberately posting a provocative statement or comment in a message board to incite a response. Usually happens in the Sports boards, Political boards, and others.
A good example in here is mentioning Trump or Sheldon. Usually the thread will eventually get closed because it ventures off the cliff. The provocativeness of certain subjects bring people into a conversation that otherwise would't happen.

I see you're a golfnut........well, Golf is for rich white folks who use black caddies as a way of remembering slavery like the good old times. I heard Paula Deen loves Golf......:wink2:
Wait, you're from South Dakota? You must be racist, there's no black people in South Dakota.

Some people have no lives or friends so they post stupid shit on the internet seeking attention from anyone who will give them some.

At least that's why I think they do it.

This is one example that I think some people perceive as possibly happening here. For example, a restaurant employee might post anonymously seeking info about their establishment in hopes of generating some positive buzz, though it could certainly backfire.

A common occurrence in my life during the 1990's. It is eating a pill of high quality ecstacy, commonly referred to as "rolling" and dropping a hit of acid or LSD, commonly referred to as "tripping." TRipping + ROLLING = Trolling. A fun and almost always epic adventure usually involving mild to extreme hallucinations, uncontrollable fits of laughter, dilated pupils, techno music, Vicks inhalers, and the occasional arrest.
