about 5 years ago the floor in the kitchen got warm on a friday morning

hired the first available contractor to come out, took 3 days to jack hammer down to the copper hot water line
under the slab and repair pinhole leak and re-tile the floor, took 3 days and cost $4K

wife woke me up this morning and said hot water pressure is half of what it normally is but cold water pressure is fine

    I fucking hate Fridays!
why does shit only break on Friday?

Not just Fridays, shit also breaks when you are away from home. Once furnace quit when I was in Aruba...thankfully pipes didn't burst. On another occasion, the waterline to ice maker on freezer eroded and what a disaster...flooring had to be replaced, ceilings had to be replaced dwnstairs, walls tore put, etc etc etc. i never connect the ice maker on any refrigerator since that!

I had a whole house water filtration system installed and at the same time I had my plumber include a water main shut off valve.
Before I leave for Vegas or any trip I turn the water to the house off & I turn off the water heater breakers. Gives me peace of mind!

I can totally relate and I feel for you.

I think the only way to get passed this is to leave a week early for your Vdara stay... :evillaugh

Hopefully, just the hot water heater.

Good advice from mdee on turning off all those valves when on vacay w/ no one to come by daily to check.
Ice maker, shut off that valve too! Just had the ice maker lock up (cube clog) and water pouring out of the freezer.
    (caught that one though)
For those with sump pumps, the pumps need regular inspection and occasional cleaning or replacement. Always have a back-up.
    I have (2) sumps.
Never, put them on the same circuit! Learned this the hard-way when one of the older pump's screws had all corroded and tripped the circuit, unbeknownst to me until I came home and heard the 'sound from hell' eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee,
    the water seepage alarm.
