I just got back from a weekend trip (Oct 5 – Oct 7) with my friends J and DJ Pootie. It was J’s first time in Vegas so he had no idea what to expect and he was pretty nervous. We left Phoenix at 2pm and ran into M and his GF in Wickenburg. M and I work together and he was meeting a group of guys that we work with in Vegas to do Tough Mudder, I knew he was heading up that day but I hadn’t planned on meeting up with him before Vegas. We caravanned from Wickenburg planning to stop in Kingman for fuel and dinner. Not too far outside of Wickenburg on the I-93 there are some pretty good hilly roads. If you go fast enough you can get that low gravity feeling like you get when a roller coasters go over a peak. I knew the hills were coming so I smashed the throttle (M followed suit)…90…100…110…120…the last two hills were great, really got the low gravity feeling. This whole time DJ Pootie is in the back seat sleeping and J is in the passenger seat with a death grip on the “Oh S**t” handle telling me to slow down. After the hills there is a relatively sharp bend in the road which can get a little hairy if you come in too hot. I slowed down to about 100 and took the turn no problem. Right when we come out of the turn we see a cloud of black and white smoke. As we get closer we see that it is a mini-van completely engulfed in flames. J makes the comment “see…that’s what happens when you go 120 over the hills.” After the adrenaline rush of the hills, M and I didn’t want to slow down…so we just kept cruising right about 90, 95. Some of the cars we passed while accelerating for the hills must have got the itch as well because we had a good 4 or 5 car caravan cruisin’ with us. At one point, a truck with an ASU sticker in the rear window passed the group and set the pace at about 100, 105; so we all sped up and joined. We stopped in Kingman for fuel and dinner but M kept going since he was meeting up with the Tough Mudder team for a carb load dinner. Since we stopped we lost the caravan, and it was getting dark so we just cruised into Vegas. Arrived at Excalibur around 7, went to VIP check in and waited…and waited…and waited. I was really disappointed with the service in the VIP room this trip, there was only one attendant helping people check in and there were two more standing behind the desk just chatting. When it was finally my turn I didn’t even get a sorry for the wait. This was my first trip back since I made the Gold tier so I was excited to see what kind of complementary room upgrade I would get. Nothing too exciting; got upgraded to a widescreen room with pool view…but still an upgrade so I wasn’t going to complain. After we got to the room, we changed and hit the town. DJ Pootie wanted a slushy drink so we went to Luxor. We played some slots near the CatHouse and got a few drinks from the CW, we all ended up breaking even on the slots. We then headed over to Hooters, got some drinks, and played some 9/6 JOB, I hit four queens so I cashed out 20 ahead. We left Hooters and went to MGM because I wanted to look for the Lions Share slot. While searching I stumbled upon a Green Machine, anyone who read my last TR knows that when I find a Green Machine that I haven’t played before I have to play it. Played it and won 20 bucks…great night so far! We found the Lions Share slot but there was someone playing it and there were two other people waiting to play, so we didn’t wait. We continued to walk around MGM and I decided to play the video roulette. I was betting $40 on black each spin…3 reds in a row…damn it! I decided “go big or go home”, placed $120 on black and BAM black!! Broke even! We left MGM and went to NYNY…as we are heading down the escalator; there stands a new Green Machine! I sit down to play and 4th spin hit $55…CASHOUT!! What a GREAT night so far!! We play some slots at NYNY but don’t see a CW so J and DJ Pootie go get some drinks from the bar. While they go get drinks I walk over to digital roulette, this time I am betting $30 on black…RED…RED…RED…RED!! Go big or go home right?? $120 on black….GREEN!! OUCH that was a fast $240… We leave NYNY and head back to Excalibur; we go up to the room and grab a few drinks then go back to the casino. I sit down at a slot and start playing. Things are going slow then I hit a free spin bonus, 7 free spins, first 6 spins are a bust…then the last one starts, first two reels stop and are all the same; this super intense, cliffhanger music starts playing and then boom third reel the same, music gets louder, fourth reel the same, music gets louder, BAM fifth reel the same!! All the same symbol over all 5 reels…$250!!! CASHOUT!! I should have taken a picture but was so excited that it slipped my mind (and I was kinda (really) drunk). I head over to another slot that I play pretty often and start playing, within about 5 minutes I hit a full bet five of a kind for $100…cashout and stumble up to the room (6:30am), text M good luck in Tough Mudder and pass out. I wake up the next day around noon with the worst headache ever; I could barely move it hurt so badly. I eventually make it to the bathroom, brush my teeth and shower and I am feeling a little better. I wake J and DJ Pootie up, they get cleaned up, we grab some food and start to walk down toward the middle of the strip to show J some of the nicer hotels (Aria, Cosmo, The B, etc.). We get to The B and turn around to head back to the hotel to get ready for tonight. We are getting super fresh (to death) and meeting up with M and some other people from my work to play some PGP and Baccarat. We get fresh and met up with M and his GF at The B at 10. M is rocking a Mohawk, a reverse chinstrap beard and his Tough Mudder head band…in a full suit I might add. Everyone else from work was so tired or injured from Tough Mudder that they bailed on going out. We gamble at the B for a bit but lost and didn’t see a CW so we head over to PH. I jumped on the giant CLUE machine and started to play…lost like $80 because I kept pumping in money in an attempt to see the bonus round…I finally got it and it was lame! M’s GF wanted to see the Green Machine because she has heard so much about it. I ask an attendant and he doesn’t think they have it at first (which I expected because I thought they were only at MGM properties) but then I described the game play to him and he had an ahhha moment and pointed us to where he thought it was. Sure enough they had one, I throw in $60 and blow it all, M gives it $50, and DJ Pootie donates $20. M’s GF wants to play so she puts in $100; she has quite a few spins…hitting a few 20’s and few 10’s but nothing that got her over the top. She ended up cashing with $75. M is getting pretty tired (understandably after doing Tough Mudder) so we say goodbye to him and his GF, they taxi back to their hotel and we start walking back to ours. We walk through Cosmo to show J the night scene there and it was crazy. In the front bar they had a live DJ playing pretty good house music, but there was also a live trumpet playing along…It sounded surprisingly cool. We get back to Excalibur; I play some VP and some slots and do bad. I call it a night since I have to drive tomorrow, J and DJ Pootie stay out and keep gambling and drinking. They roll in at 6:30am (waking me up) and pass out after scarfing some McDonald’s. I wake up nice and early and make it to McDonald’s for breakfast, while eating I remember that I am suppose to have some free play with the offer I booked. I hit the Mlife desk and get my free play, I jump on the same slot I won on the first night and turn $3 into $28…great way to end the trip. I go back upstairs and J and DJ Pootie are still passed out cold. I clean up the room some, pack up my stuff and take some stuff to the car. I call the front desk and get a late check out (noon). Its 11:30 and I finally just wake J and DJ Pootie up, I tell them they have 30 minutes to get all cleaned up and packed. They rally and we are on the road by 12:15. DJ Pootie immediately falls asleep in the back seat, and J is still really drunk from the night before. Nothing too exciting on the drive home…hooked up with another car and cruised at about 100 for about 90 miles, but then lost them in Wickenburg. Overall the trip was a success, I didn’t lose everything I took to gamble with, J had a great first experience, and we didn’t get arrested. I will say that this is the first time that I have been disappointed with Excalibur…not only was the service at check-in lacking, the carpet in our room had a giant burn from someone setting the hot iron flat on the floor, there was a hole in the wall next to the bed closest to the window, the overall cleanliness of the hotel was not what it usually is, and the people staying next to us tried to sell us cocaine… I am, however, greatly looking forward to my trip back to Vegas in 16 days for the NHRA drags and the SEMA show.
