I'm heading to Vegas for a conference in September and since we're just a month away from my 40th (I feel much older!) my wife is joining me and we're staying a few extra days. The conference is at Aria and to save money for my company I booked at NYNY. I could have booked at Monte Carlo but I like NYNY and felt the uniqueness of it is a good first place to stay for my co-worker who has never been before. Once the conference is done my co-worker is moving to Bellagio because he remembers me talking about the fountain view rooms from my last trip. My wife and I, since we've stayed at many places have decided to just keep the room at NYNY.

My wife intends to spend some time at the pool while I'm at the conference and I am wondering what is the pool scene like at NYNY? We're not the wild party types and she'll just want to lounge by the pool and maybe take a bit of a dip. We stayed at NYNY before and the pool was closed, but the hot tubs were open because it was windy and cold. We were the only people to use the hot tub and the lifegaurd said "What, are y'all from Canada or something"... lol. "Actually, yes we are!". What was funny about that trip is we live in a place that is typically windy and while we were in Vegas with temperatures of 50 and gusty winds, back home was calm as can be and unseasonably high temperatures!

So, what is the pool scene like at NYNY? Party-ish? Relaxing?

Its a nice relaxing spot. It was remodeled a few years or so ago. Its not big, I believe on weekends they have a DJ, but its def not a party pool. The shade hits it rather quickly due to the design of the resort. We had a good time there, back when we stayed they let you also use the Monte Carlo pool with a NYNY card. I am not sure they still do that. We would start out at NYNY and then head over to MC later in the day. MC was def a more lively scene. Sounds like it will be perfect for what you want.

Thanks! I gathered it was what we were looking for. When searching for what the pool scene is like you never hear nary a whisper of NYNY's pool. As I type this I realized something... I need to get a little less soft around the belly and only three months to do it!

Another co-worker, who isn't going with us, told me they had to rent the lounge chairs on the pool deck at a couple of places, but she couldn't remember which two places did that. I'm not familiar with that practice. I remember just grabbing a spot at MGM and Mandalay Bay without any issues, but that was back in 2007 and earlier.

Was she drunk or is this a new practice?

You don't have to rent a lounger. Pretty much all the places set aside a few that you can rent if you wish to avoid getting there or early or getting a prime spot, etc. Unless its a holiday or busy weekend none of that should be an issue.
