I've stayed at NYNY several times and usually get a room that I use the New Yorker elevators for (near Gallaghers). I received a room a couple of times that I was able to use the Empire elevators for (near the 24 hour store and pool). I liked it for convenience and wonder if anyone knows if the rooms they service are more exclusive. I'm going soon and thought I'd ask for a room there but wasn't sure if it would be an upgrade to the regular Park Avenue room that I'm supposed to get. Not sure if that makes sense..

I usually get a room that uses those elevators. The free room offer I get is usually for the room that is one step above the basic room

I hate the Empire elevators. They are always soooo crowded and you have to wait with a big group of people for the next one to arrive.

I much prefer the New Yorker ones.

But to answer your question, both the New Yorker and Empire elevator banks service a bunch of different room types.

I must disagree. In 3 multi-day trips to NYNY, I've only experienced a "crowd" by the elevator once - as in one specific occurrence over several days. On one trip, we were the only people on the floor for the first two nights, and typically had the elevator to ourselves. I might have to share with one or two other folks, but overall, I've never experienced the crowds you speak of.

Were you on a high floor? I find the elevators that service the floors 27+ are usually much less crowded.

But every time I've been in the Empire bank and on a lower floor, those elevators have SUCKED. Never had a problem in the New Yorker elevator bank, low floor or high.

Maybe that's the difference. We've been on floors 30 and up each time.

When I checked into nyny 5 years ago, I asked for a higher floor. The guy looked me dead in the eye and said" sir, if you slip me $20, I can arrange for a tent on the roof for you" cracked me up. Ended up with a room at the end of the hall looking right down on the Statue of Liberty. Great view! Came back down a have the guy his tip.
