I was with three buddies golfing a couple weeks ago Windsor/Detroit. We stayed at Caesars over night. I was basically the only gambler. I found a $15 BJ table and bought in. My three buds stood and watched as I lost and lost and lost. I even had a pair of nines that resulted in four hands on the table and....I lost them ALL! At that point they turned around and walked away.

So anyway, I was almost down and out when they left and the table filled up with a fun bunch and the comeback was on. In the end, I ended up @ $45 and called it a night with no one to witness the comeback.

I am not a big karma guy but, man I just felt so uncomfortable with these guys looking over my shoulder watching me lose.

I know a lot of people wander around and watch tables with out playing and it never bothers me but, with these guys I dunno.

Anyone else dislike non-gamblers/friends watching them play?

Yes, I really don't like to gamble if my friends are watching unless they are drinking
drinking and sitting at the table.

It's the worst when they make sounds, say words, give you advice when you loose. I call it backseat gambling, it sucks being the driver.

I have told my friends to get loss before, especially when down. It may be rude but they will forgive you if they are your friends. Most understand when you are gambling and need to let alone.

Another observation, some people are cursed when they are around and vice versa.

A nice way to get rid of friends is tell them too meet you at the bar or somewhere else and you will meet them in a bit.

My cousin will do this, not even sit at an empty table when I tell him to stop crowding me

my wife is the ultimate Cooler", she's been unlucky her last 4 trips, I want her nowhere near me when I'm playing

in fact after last trip I prefer she be at least one state away if I'm gambling, the Force is strong in that One!...

yeah, I have some friends I don't mind hanging out watching, but others that are just bad news.

the worst ones are non-gamblers who are always commenting when you lose a hand or how many hands you lost in a row, etc. or how much money you're betting/losing.

Yeah I hate the obvious commentary..."wow that hand sucked" or "dude you are getting killed". Yes, I know. Shut the fuck up.

I can't stand it as it always seems tobring me bad luck. I will just stop playing now until they go away.

The only thing that bugs me more is if the watchers order cocktails fom the cw. They will never tip and I feel compelled to tip more thus create more stress.

My favorite are the random people who are tryinging to learn the game and decide YOU are the PERFECT person to answer all of their questions. Sometimes if there were a woodchipper around....

I am okay with strangers watching. Not happy with family and friends. Either play with me, or go find something to do. In the end, I go walking with them and eventually find a way to disappear.

Yea after my non gambling friends was sitting back and I'm losing. I've made it point that they be no where near me when I'm gambling.

I actually call one of them Cousin Eddie(Randy Quad's character in Vegas Vacation). He is not allow near me at the table.

    What shifter said and.....
I have my best friend who gies to vegas with me almost every time and he is the un-luckiest man alive! Wonderful guy but unlucky. More money than god but plays greens if that. When I was playing baccarat with nate and pphold last trip at wynn he came in of course not to play but watch and sure enough after a loss I see him shaking his head saying it figures and being negative. Of course I lost when he was in there and mercifully nate asked to shuffle the shoe mid deck. He left we won. Ended up a loss for the session due to him! When I play craps and if he starts I call "off" and sit on the sidelines. Anyone else is more than welcome.

Haha, this is great. Blaming a friend for bad luck. I have done this and when He left, I won everything.

I think any superstitious gambler has experience something like this.

I always find that I go on a winning streak if I'm playing but my OH is just watching.

...but then he starts pressuring me to take my winnings and run even though I'm not ready to yet! Tsk!

Family, non-players are a nuisance when I'm playing.

On the other hand, when it's dinner time or to call it a night and I start watching beside my husband, he starts winning. This is a double edged sword.

Count me in the group who thinks it is annoying - I feel rushed when someone is just sitting there watching. Either get down with me or lets meet up somewhere later.

I am in this camp. I will have friends that are just waiting though until there is an open seat though so they can play with me. I had one of my best sessions ever though with my uncle and cousin standing behind me and talking to me while playing at my bachelor party. I was drunk though so nothing was going to bother me that night. And every other situation with someone watching for long periods of time is annoying. Mainly I think it is because they feel the need to comment on either bad beats and or how to play.

Someone else mentioned a friend that is just always bad luck. I have one like this also. He always losses and if he comes to sit at my table, things almost always turn sour fast. He does vary his bet size though a lot and even when he should have a winning session, he comes up down because he losses his bigger bets. I learned that when he lowers his bet to raise mine, and when he raises his bet, go the min. This is hard to do with good or bad counts but as long as it is not a major high count I will follow it with him there.

I hate bus-stop people (people who hang around gambling tables like they are waiting for a bus). I don't care whether they are friends of mine, friends of some other player, I don't care who the f they are. By and large these people are rooting for you to lose, to validate their opinion of gambling. They are mojo killers. Don't bring wives, girlfriends, fraternity brothers, and other varities of spectators to tables where other people are playing for real money. Slots, and pay per view movies in hotel rooms, are where these people belong.
