Checked in 7 PM and barely had time to ask if there were any upgrades before she had finished the room assignment. She explained that there were none available due to biker's week. I then told her that due to the noise I experienced last trip from the 4th street band that I wanted South Tower facing South. She said the only rooms available were smoking rooms (don't bikers smoke anymore?). We entered into final negotiations for the North Tower. I asked for something facing South and far away from 4th street. She said that she was going to put me in the deluxe room and that there was only one such room per floor. She told me that it had a refrigerator, which is the only upgrade I need.

After I got my keys I pulled out a ten spot and thanked her for her efforts. She refused to take the bill, no explanation. I have always been skeptical of some of the 'twenty dollar trick' stories, but who turns down a tip in this town?

Very odd. I have had success the last three or four times I've stayed at 4Q.

On the other hand, did you have any VP luck downtown?

The "bikers" were 25,000 bicyclists... they were all over town last week... was fun going up/down in the elevators with them and their bikes!

The 'deluxe' room was nothing more than the refrigerator and a few updated bathroom fixtures. Maybe she was embarrassed to take a tip for it.
