I was just reading another thread about the Last Vegas movie and thought I would share a few of my thoughts about our beloved town. Hearing about everyone's thoughts about this movie put me in a nostalgic and sentimental mood for some reason and felt it incumbent upon me to share...

The first time I ever went to Vegas I stayed at the old Lady Luck downtown and brought $400 to gamble with over a 4 night stay :faint:. I went with a buddy of mine who paid for the flight and room so I couldn't complain. I had never been to Vegas and never gambled in my life so it was quite the experience. To this day I remember playing one of those 95% payback bank of slots and winning "something" enough to pay me in gold tokens in chip trays and walking up to my buddy with a I just fu##@* the cat look and him getting pissed that I won... He has a hard time winning. We stayed there the whole time, didn't go anywhere else except for a brief excursion to the Mustang Ranch on his behalf. I sat at the bar and talked to the bartender about being in the military while my friend got his fix. Quite the night.

That was my first trip to Vegas and 10 since then. Each have had their memories I will truly never forget. Some are simple, like people watching, the first time I saw the Bellagio fountains, to the smells of each casino that never seem to leave my mind. There truly is no other place on earth that leaves such an everlasting sense of desire, prosperity, anxiety and excitement that Vegas can, even when you're not there. When I leave I feel as though I just left my best friend and when I come back I feel as though I am seeing my best friend for the first time in a long while. When I am in Vegas there are no bosses, no stress, no conference calls, no deadlines and no clocks. And I love every minute of it :beer::beer:

It is my happy place and thought I would share.

Thanks for sharing. I enjoy hearing about others trips and feelings toward Vegas. We started going in 2001 for our 25th anniversary and stayed @ Mirage. I will never forget the smell walking into Mirage from the strip past the Volcano lagoon and the small waterfalls. Yep it's chlorine but it still invokes great memories.

Thanks for sharing. I love your post because it describes everything I feel about Vegas. Especially the no boss, no stress, no deadlines... etc. etc.

I go there to un-wind, relax, contemplate, and lick my wounds from the rigors of everyday life. It is my place to play and be happy with no worries.

I'll be leaving soon to visit Vegas, and it cannot come soon enough. I'm totally burned-out from work and need to get away.

    Hey there VegasMarv,

Your posting, and that of others, referring to, may I say, an emotional link to Vegas caused me to search my computer files for something I had written sometime ago when I was thinking along the same lines. At the time, I was trying to rationalize a retort to friends and family when they say “you’re going to Vegas again?” This seemed like a good thread in which to share these thought. Although I have expanded it to include casino gaming in general, I was thinking on our times in Vegas. Here goes…

“Yes we’re going again…Because… I am willing to admit that casino gaming provides the color in my life! In other words, because we participate in that industry, whether it be Las Vegas, Atlantic City or anywhere in between, we have been exposed to so many experiences which never would have happened if we had followed sound advice to …”stay out of those places”. Because we didn’t listen, over the years, we have built up a treasure chest of stories about the places we stayed, the restaurants we have dined, the shows we have seen, the pools we have splashed in and always the wonderful, witty people we have met, all with their own colorful stories. Vegas is by far the best source of lasting memories,…its where life’s gray explodes into a rainbow.”

A picture frame in our den which contains a photo taken in Las Vegas has the inscription, “the memories we share will always keep us close”. Only one photo is housed in that frame, but the memory of all of our Vegas trips are included there, all surrounded by that simple but true statement.

Thanks for reading and for starting this thread. JW
