    My Trip Report

Pre-face: Long time lurker, first time poster.

I just spent the last 3 weeks in the field for a training exercise, living out of a one man tent. No showers, and roughly 15-20 port-a-johns for approx 400 people. I averaged 5 hours of sleep at night. That's military life for ya.

Needless to say I was in need of some action in my life and definitely a change of scenery. What a better way than to hit up a local casino.

San Manuel is not my first choice (probably been here 5 times total), but since it's the closest one, me and my buddy decide to head out last night (Sunday) around 2200. We get there after about an hour of driving, and think to myself "do people work normal shifts anymore?" Crowded would be an understatement.

I max bet penny machines and $1 single line reel machines. But I've dialed that down quite a bit over the last 6 months. I've been playing slots for the last 4 years and have yet to hit a handy.

Walking around on the main floor, I notice they WANT you to play nickel+ machines. As there were only a handful penny machines. After playing random nickel and quarter machines for about 45 mins I check my pockets and realize I'm already down $300. I come to the conclusion, these machines are TIGHT.

Down to my last $200, I decide I had enough of slots, as these machines aren't paying. My buddy is having the same results as I am. As I was about to speak up and say lets just leave, I figure I'll give VP a shot. Now I have probably played VP 3 times in my life, but have an app on my phone that I play occasionally so I know the basics.

I sit down at a bank of quarter VP machines. It's double double bonus, so I slide in four $20 bills. I'm playing for about 15 mins, best I've seen so far is a dealt straight, and a flush. I'm hovering around $50-$65 and just felt like I hit a wall of fatigue. I'm ready to cash out and leave, but there's always that "just one more!" Feeling.

So I hit deal and and see 4 diamonds and a random club. In my tired state, I realize All I'm missing is a Q of diamonds for a royal. I pause for a bit, pondering if I should call my buddy over for a sweat. I think to myself "I'll be lucky to even hit a pair." So I hold the four and hit deal. The screen freezes for about 2 seconds and...

    Bam!!!

Hit the progressive for $1150.50. Not a hand pay, but will take this all day long. All of a sudden I was no longer tired.

After that I dumped another 100 into random machines. Then bought into pai gow poker for $200. Played about 4 hands, best hand I got was trip queens with an A-10 on top. I left after that hand with a $16 profit from the table.

I hope this wasn't too long. Hopefully I can contribute more in the future.

Congrats on the royal. Indian Casinos are notoriously 'tight'. The screen says Cash 1200.50, you got 1150.50? and the progressive win amount for 5 coins is $1000.08?, only 8 cents more than the amount betting 4 coins? Something doesn't seem right at first glance. That goes to show you that Indian Casinos more or less make up their own rules.

Thanks, my biggest hand I've ever had before this was four aces on a 4 credit bet.

The progressive was roughly 1150.50. It then reset to 1k. I believe the 4 coin bet would yield 1000 credits, which would be $250.

Good for you jayrice! You were playing a progressive DoubleDouble Bonus machine and hit for $1150. The paytables for a (full house and flush) were not good but they usually aren’t on a progressive machine. You’re right, the returns shown on the top of the machine express credits, not dollars so the four credit quarter bet would have just netted $250. On a game called Triple Double bonus, your baseline is 4,000 credits for quad A’s w/kicker and 2,000 for quad 2-3-4’s w/k. If your A had been placed at the right end, you would have hit a sequential royal. On those machines which pay for such, you would have won 50,000 credits! I’ve played both slots and VP for the past twenty years and I have found that VP has paid better overall but you can potentially win more on a slot jackpot. There was a time that $5 and up slots returned over 98% of the coin through. That is not true anywhere anymore. Again, good for you!

That VP machine is tight too (~95.2%, not good for VP), but glad it spit out the hit you're looking for!

Congrats on the royal. San Man is my least favorite of the locals too, however, I get suckered over there about once a month because I have friends who keep texting me Twitter feeds of people hitting $50k, $100k+ jackpots there...all the time! To me, the place is just a major money suck!

The four-coin bet is 1000 COINS, the five-coin bet is 1000 DOLLARS.
    Coins = quarters.

What kind of jerk sends Instagram jackpots from there? :)

Your friend is running super hot there though. Doesn't he crush all the high limit Wheel of Fortunes?

Yes... Thanks for clarification. Unless your friend is a woman and super hot, that would not be the case.
