    Hello everyone

I am going to Las Vegas in July with my boyfriend and our 4 kids (ages 15, 12, 12 and 10). We are staying at New York New York because it just looks like a good family hotel. Can someone tell me about the pool, any fun things for the kids, food, etc. TIA

It's been a while since I've spent significant time at NYNY, so the food has probably changed a bit. I recently ate at a burger place there, and it was ok. The casino seemed a little empty from when I used to stay there a few years back. I did like that i could go across to MGM easily, or go towards luxor, excalibur, and Mandalay Bay. NYNY has the rollercoaster.

Its a decent option for travelling with kids. The pool is pretty basic, but there is room for kids to play and get wet. There is also the roller coaster and the arcade upstairs, which is good to keep the kids occupied

The pool is no bigger than an apartment complex pool. The parking structure keeps the pool from getting sun until every bit of noon time.
Monte Carlo has a lazy river and has a better pool for a family.

Stayed at NYNY last August, loved it. The pool is alright, small but the atmosphere was great. It was hot last August (111F) the 2 day we were there, the pool was perfect.

NYNY has become one of my two home bases when in Vegas (the other being Aria) and I quite like it. Granted, I don't have children so can't really comment on how it is for families, but as others have said; it has the roller coaster, arcade, etc and you are within walking distance of other properties. If you have a rental car you might want to take a trip outside of the strip as well. Red Rock Canyon can be a lot of fun if your family is into outdoor activities such as hiking (and it's not too hot). Valley of Fire is about an hour away and is stunning and you also have Boulder Dam within 30-45 minutes as well. Last time i was in Las Vegas I found a rental car for $91 (including taxes) for four days so it can be quite economical..

I like the pool at NYNY if only because it is far more basic (and at least when I go far more quiet) than competing pools at Monte Carlo and MGM. I also like the fact that there always appears to be plenty of shady spots (I burn quickly and easily regardless of the SPF). With the opening of the new arena coming up, there may be more to do as well..

If I was a kid in July, it would be hard to give up Mandalay Bay's pools. You can always walk to Excailibur and NYNY for other things.

Agree with a previous poster, with 4 kids you CANNOT beat the beach and the wave pool (and with their ages, they'd all be able to body surf in the big pool) and bask in the lazy river at Mandalay Bay if you can swing the extra cost. Also Monte Carlo/similar priced as NYNY also has a much smaller wave pool and good lazy river...I'd be staying MB or Monte over NYNY any time with kids. And there are 6 of you so some rooms charge extra after 4 people, I'm sure you've got that one handled. One thing I always wanted to do with my kids when they were younger was take them indoor skydiving in Vegas...they are 24 and 29 now, never too late but...Shark Tank is okay, but I'm from Vancouver and our aquarium is pretty awesome, so it was nothing new when I took the little guy. The roller coaster at NYNY is a nice feature but when I brought my little guy and his buddy one time, they did it once and that was enough. I'm not a CET property stayer, but doesn't Flamingo still have the water slides? And I wouldn't suggest downtown for all the kids, but Golden Nugget's water slide right through the aquarium is pretty cool too.

Take a walk across the bridge to Excalibur to the Fun Dungeon...lots to do for kids down there. I took my daughters (aged 4 and 10) there and spent about an hour or 2 playing random games. $40 went a long way.

NYNY used to have a nice arcade area but not sure of its current status.
Last time i was at the Excalibur arcade was prior to its renovation a few years back and not sure of its current status.
If the pool is a huge factor, maybe check out MGM instead.

As for the pools for your family the order goes like this - Mandalay Bay, MGM Grand, Excalibur and Mirage. All are MGM properties so you can enter with no or minimal entry fee. You can also try Las Vegas Mini Gran Prix for a fun racing with your kids. Try Tournament of Kings dinner show at Excalibur. The Big Apple Coaster at NYNY is worth visiting.

I suggest going to the Pinball Hall of Fame on Tropicana. Besides pinball there are other games to play as well and is relatively inexpensive.

I too suggest changing to either Excalibur (cheaper) or Mandalay Bay (better). I personally like NYNY and stayed there last summer but it was just me, not my kids.

I find that with my kids, I want an atmosphere that is loud, fun and filled with other kids. I HATE being in anyplace, (pool, restaurant etc.) that is filled with adults who are looking for a little R & R, without children. You end up saying "shhh," "stop splashing," over and over again. It's bloody stressful.

I've stayed at Excalibur several times with my kids. The pool is filled with other families all laughing and having a good time. It's known as a no go zone for both adult R & R and 20 something pissed to the gourd meat market. Lol

Mandalay Bay is where I'd be if I was prepared to drop $200/night instead of $80. You'll never get your kids out of the pool, it makes Excalibur look like the junior league.

The New York New York has a fun eating area on a cobblestone path, pizza, hot dogs, fried fish and chips, deli, mexican, hamburgers to name a few. Plenty of kid friendly choices. The NYNY hosts the roller coaster that everyone seems to enjoy and a sizable arcade to play in which is not easy to find in Vegas. The pool I feel is perfect because it is never crowded. If you can afford to, spring for a cabana and you will not regret it! They are amazing and we love to enjoy them. The Hershey's Chocolate Shop is on property as well as the MnM store and movie theater is directly across the street. Tournament of Kings is a kid favorite right next door at Excalibur, and there is a play to play and win stuffed animals with carnival type games downstairs there for the kids.

I think you will be pleased with your choice!

All my kids have kids of their own, so I've never gone with kids. Have stayed at NYNY last September and will be there again in 3 weeks (can't come soon enough). I guess I have to agree with a lot of the posters here. There probably are better places for "families" to stay. Have been to the pool area at Mandalay Bay and it's great. It will probably depend on your kids ages, but there really is a lot to do at that end of the strip. Whatever you decide, have a great trip.
