Cabs are GONE when you need them NYE!

We did the Bridge Bash at NYNY last year, and it was great! Stayed at TI and planned the entire trip heavily. However, I cannot stress enough the unusual transportation problems that night. We literally got the LAST CAB of the evening at 6pm, and stupidly took it only to The Quad to pick up some friends. We had to trek down via monorail and on foot between casinos to get down to NYNY. The strip is closed at 6pm -- as in no foot traffic, no cars, no cabs. To get across the street you have to use one of the pedestrian bridges that are open and alot of them weren't. The strip is fenced up for a couple of hours, you cannot just walk across the street. I took us over an hour to get down to NYNY from the Quad, between 6-7pm.

Then, after the fireworks and party were over, the strip is still closed to automobile traffic. Cabs and limos don't return until the strip is cleared and cleaned at about 3am. And, it was friggin freezing. The thought of walking back down 1/2 of the strip and/or being outside to monorail that trip back to TI was too much for me. Honestly, I paid rack rate for the last room in the NYNY just to sleep a few hours and wait it out until morning.

PARTY NEAR YOUR HOME HOTEL!!! Lesson learned...still hella fun though!!

I will also be in Las Vegas on NYE for the first time. This is my 7th Vegas trip but first NYE so I have been looking for what hotels offer such as all you can drink packages at places. We are not club people so not looking to go to any clubs. Just wanted to try and get a plan together.

We are staying at the Monte Carlo so trying to find something there or close to do until Fireworks time. I think we are just happy staying around or in out hotel and then watching the fireworks at midnight. Wondering when Hotels will start posting their NYE schedules or events. I havent been able to find anything yet.

If you are staying at the Monte Carlo The PUB has a party every year, you can purchase just tickets for entry or open bar and they also have tables. Have done this party before...then you can go outside by the pool area to watch the fireworks as they shoot them off from the top of ARIA. Monte Carlo is also having a black tie affair but you have to be invited.

    Hey Now!!!!

We are gonna be at Orleans, doing a dinner party early in the evening. No plans for later on. Looking for the best spot there to watch the fireworks from the hotel. Most of the rooms have a limited view at best. Any suggestions as to which rooms have a better view?
Maybe the parking lot out back would be the best place to watch...

Been keeping an eye on this site which is really useful for anyone else in a similar position http://www.vegas.com/newyears/

Now there seems to be too much choice! Hanging off to see if NYNY do something to replace the Brooklyn Bridge Bash, anyone heard anything about this?

Thank You so much for the info. I was thinking the Pub would have something. I think we will end up doing this since it will at the hotel and the Pub seems like a cool. place. Thanks again.

Yeah, the cab situation is crazy for sure. I'm a TR Diamond member and last year a guy gave me $100 to get him right up to the front of the cab line. It was over a 2 hour wait.

    Welcome a fellow Scot!

Did NYE 2006, stayed at Orleans and cabbed it down to the strip about 8pm, staked my claim at a VP bar in IP, decided to go out to the strip about 11.30 pm, took me the full 1/2 hour to get through the casino / valet area onto the strip!, crazy busy. I could not get a cab back to orleans till around 5 AM.

I would highly recommend to stay close to your "home" hotel.

Remember I went in 2006, you could freely walk into any hotel/casino then (not now unless you have a keycard), and it is considerably busier these days!!

Vegas is getting more and more packed every year for NYE. The clubs are getting whatever price they want for tables and the people that cant afford it go to the strip. I know a couple years ago it was so cold, people were complaining , wth do you expect. Every casino in town is having at least one party, adn yes the strip clubs are having theirs to. Biggest tip for everyone, i have said it once and will say it again. Unless you just want to roll around in a limo and sit in traffic then party close to your hotel. The strip is blocked off, the side streets are backed up, its a mess. Taxi lines will be long and some of the hotels you cant use main entrance, they use side or back entrance.

Think we have narrowed it down to Nine Fine Irishmen party paying the VIP price of $240 to get access to the 2nd floor patio for views of the fireworks or PBR Rock bar again paying the VIP package of $200 to get access to their patio. We are staying at the Tropicana so within walking distance and hoping it won't take too long to get back to the hotel.

Really would like to do the Nine Fine Irishmen party as well but my husband wont pay those prices for the party even though its open bar. Kind of bummed out cause I think it will be a fun party and we will now be stuck just standing around and mostly in our hotel the Monte Carlo where Im sure it will be a very crowded to eat anywhere or get a drink. His plan was to get a bottle of liquor and party in the room and then go out to watch the fireworks. What a party lifestyle.
