What are they building just north of the Riviera? When we were there a year ago it was just a couple stories high. In July it looked like it was at full height, but no signs up anywhere.......

I'm not sure, but I'm guessing what your asking about is the Fountainbleu.
It's exterior has been finished for a couple of years, but the recession hit and funding dried up. The project was bought by corporate raider Carl Icahn, and has been idle since, other than the interior furnishings sold off to the Plaza downtown.

We were on the monorail heading toward the Sahara a in April of 2011 and finally got to see the Fontainbleu in all its glory. Place gives me the shivers, as it is probably 30-40 stories high and half finished. ALot of the upper areas didnt even have windows installed, looks like a giant carcass staring down at the ruins of the North Strip. Just a creepy old place, cant imagine what its starting to look like inside!

Try driving on the access road between it and the Riviera. THAT is really creepy. It gave me full appreciation of actually how big a project it is.
