Going to Vegas in two weeks and over Christmas. Now I want suggestions where to go in Feb to celebrate my wife's birthday.

We each bought passports in 2010 and haven't used them yet. It doesn't have to be foreign travel, just saying we have the passports.

I'm not a sit by the pool person for more than 2 hours and then I get bored. But leaving Wisconsin in February for a warm spot would be great.

    Here are thoughts so far:
Phoenix for Brewer spring training. We've been there several times for spring training & golf and enjoyed ourselves.

Florida is kinda blah. Went there almost every year back in the 80s and really don't want to go again.

A Rhine River cruise for 10 days sounds really cool, but I think in Feb it would not be a good idea.

We've never been on a traditional cruise and really have no desire to do one. We just feel like we are trapped on board.

i want to limit the trip to no more than 9-10 days. Doggie has to go the kennel and even though it's a interaction type kennel, where she gets two play sessions with other dogs per day, I don't want to leave her there too long.

I love golf but back issues have prevented me from golfing the last two years. I'm hoping it will be better in 2013. But I can't be sure. I would hate to book a golf trip to somewhere in the south and then not be able to swing the clubs.

Crap, I'm rambling, but throw out a few ideas. Especially anything non-stop from Milwaukee on SWA to anywhere warm/hot in February.

Holy crap, rates up to $1,060 per night and the lowest at $275 per night.

Sounds nice, but maybe just a little out of my range of expectations and costs.

Even though we get RFB downtown at Boyd, we are still essentially low rollers.

Did that once in 1974 and honestly I can't remember a whole lot.:drunk: i think it was fun.:drunk::drunk:

EDIT, just looked it up and Fat Tuesday is on her birthday in 2013. 2/12/13. It is definitely going on the possibility list.
EDIT #2 Airfares not too bad and non-stop from Milwaukee, about $240 ea, but hotels in French Quarter $400+ per night.

    Mardi Gras

For Mardi Gras, I'd recommend checking out VRBO.com for condos in the warehouse district or the CBD, in addition to the French Quarter. You can also potentially use your CET card for discounts with their hotels. We rented a 1BR condo in the FQ for a week for relatively cheap, and had a kitchen to boot one year using VRBO, so it can be done! (Relatively cheap....I think it was 1000 bucks for the week?)

Destin Florida. You'll be a little early in the season and get a good deal.

A sandals resort somewhere. Look awesome I think, and with them being all inclusive might be more affordable than Atlantis which is not.

My wife and I also really enjoy going to Disney World with and without our kids.

February is a good time to visit the south Texas coast to see the whooping cranes (and other birds) at Aransas National Wildlife Refuge near Rockport, TX.

I don't know if SWA flies into Corpus Christi, which is the closest airport.

Average high temperature in February at Rockport is 67, average low is 49.

Cabo, St. Thomas (actually anywhere in the US Virgin Islands), Key West, Mardi Gras, Cayman Islands. We are looking into parts of Brazil too. It will be their late summer, early fall. We are looking in Feb-April for a girls trip, with almost the same guidelines as yours.

Like you even looked at packages for Atlantis to pricey for what we want to do. Heard good and bad reviews from friends, ie too many kids there and thats what we want to get away from. I can handle the college crowd and parties. I cant handle a bunch of 5-10 years olds running the place.

    Try to avoid Presidents Weekend

Especially if price is a concern ,one of the most traveled times of the year and prices usually reflect that. All -Inclusives In the Riviera Maya were always a pretty good value compared to other Carib. Destinations ,but I dont know what the current security concerns are ,I would try to get feedback from people who go there each year. Good Luck, send us a post card. Another thing I just thought of,have you ever been thru Charleston SC, Savanna GA and that Low Country area ? Winter can be tolerable for touring, not hot but can also see a cold snap.

I actually prefer Tucson to Phoenix - I think the scenery is more beautiful, and I prefer the more "laid back" and artsy vibe compared to Phoenix [which to me has always felt like Los Angeles, but hotter LOL]. Tucson is actually where we're probably going to retire - we love the desert & had thought about retiring to Vegas, but figured then we'd lose the joy of taking trips to Vegas! - and decided Tucson's the best of both world's - In the desert, and a lot closer to Vegas than Philly! All that being said, I don't know there's a lot to do there besides relax, golf, eat, shop, hike, etc. - might be worth looking into if you've never been, though.

Have you thought about/ever been to Puerto Rico? They have gambling as well as a lot of other sites to see - and at a far cheaper price point than Atlantis in the Bahamas [but the casinos/resorts still run the gamut from cheap to luxurious] - Plus, because there's both city & less developed areas on the island, there's a lot of things to do & see no matter what you're in the mood for.

Funny you say that. The last thing on my list of good/bad things living in Vegas was that once we moved there, we lost our favorite vacation spot.

Panama City, FL is the newest SWA hotspot ... nice beach area location.
AND ... if you rent a car, you could always make a side trip over to the Biloxi, MS casino area. :rolleyes2:

    For potential Atlantis visitors

I dont know how many people know this ,but if you want to save a ton of money you can book the Comfort Suites across the street. They have a refrig. in room and give you a free breakfast. You can use the facilities at the Atlantis all you want. Food and drinks are super expensive at Atlantis,I would definitely advise to take one of the meal plans if you stay there.

We love going somewhere warm in February. For the last 3 years it's been Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Besides nice Caribbean beaches, there's good snorkeling, Mayan ruins, and many good restaurants to try. We'll probably go back this winter. :)
