Apparently there was legal action threatened against MyVegasFriends and it is being shut down. I don't think that I will be joining the other group. I don't thin that particular strain of groupthink is healthy. I don't know if PlayStudios has an issue with the friend lists and the chip shares or if they got tired of all the griping.

It will be interesting to see where the game is and where the Facebook group is in six months.

I'm not buying it. Sounds more like Brad didn't get his way and made the whole thing up, because the other group still has its name and share threads. In addition, I highly doubt MyVegas' legal team is working at 1:00 am in the morning.

MyVegas Friends is not being shutdown because they are complying by not running it as a business. They are being allowed to use "myvegas" in their name because of it. It makes you wonder what was going on in the other group.

If anyone needs a chip collecting group there is a new one called "My Vegas Chips Center".

I know a few people that got booted because they posted something that was in disagreement with John and Brad with myvegasdeals.

I left the group the other day because I did not like the the admin attitudes.

They posted links to other casino offers and said "Buy from these people to support this board." While I don't doubt it takes time to administer the group, it does not take money. Facebook is free.

So they're using another company's brand name to financially support themselves while driving business to the competitors of MyVegas' client. Yet Brad paints himself as the victim.

And there are enough people who will believe him, because it comes the same time MyVegas is limiting comps to 3 per 30-day period. There was SO much griping from the people getting things for free.

That's it exactly. They had the option to change the name and continue to have these other "commercial interests" or not have the other interests. The crux was that FB will not allow a name change. So that is why they are arguing that they were "forced" to close the group. ...in truth, they could have stopped the other things that (1) sold the competition, even tangentially on a (passively) MLife branded product or (2) moved those to this new Rover board they created and maintained a MyVegas group.

There was always a presumptive air of being entitled to some sort of special treatment by Mlife/Playstudios/MGM/MyVegas...and truth be told, it was a hard sell to see that people wanting lots and lots of freebies and threatening taking their businesses elsewhere over losing a free crepe had any gaming power in the first place.

I'm happy with my 3...and if it becomes restricted beyond use, I move on.

MVFD was using the MyVegas name to add people to the group. Once people were in the group they tried to move them to their travel page with deals. Most of the deals were affiliate links. Affiliate links pay a commission back to the owner of the page for every purchase made from that link. So MVFD was using the MyVegas name to turn a profit. That is where the commercial interest comes from. They chose to shut the group down rather than give up the money. People blindly believe that guy and I can't figure out why. I think it is great his group is gone. Every time he did not get his way he would start slamming MGM and Playstudios, then the group would follow. Bad moves like that could speed up the games end! I think MGM/Playstudios have a great concept, now if they can tweak it so it works for the business and consumer!

If he was legit and honest he would have returned all the prizes considering how he was slamming them, but he's a fake and an opportunist.

Thats ok Londonlady, I got banned a long time ago from that group for having an opinion. Its good for the game that the group is gone. The negative attitude started with the admins and trickled down! It seemed like they were the kid that would take his ball and go home if he didn't get his way!

You are right vegas9094, they were both so pig headed, Monty gave them a clear way out to remain on board, but they wanted to dilute the myvegas brand by taking other companies on board etc etc.

Londonlady - Monty even tried to convince them to keep the group for the 15000 members (which was no where near 15000 active members). It was pretty clear what the admin wanted was to keep his affiliate links up and not to just help everyone out of the kindness of his heart like he had people convinced.

To my active members comment. Notice for a few days he tried to get people to move to his new group and only managed to get 3000 or so. If 15000 people were active you would think he could atleast get half to move over. I think the way he had people blindly add their whole friends list has shown through. It also showed with his travel page which also could not get anywhere near the fake numbers of MVFD.

I completely agree with you, i read the whole thing unfolding yesterday. I also read that the group was set up with one of the admins from the original group.

They were so short sighted and were out to make a quick buck, they should have simply become one of the best resources available for the game and in time it would have been rewarding for all parties.

I agree! And the idea to help others and make some money was a good idea. He put the time in and should have worked with Playstudios to avoid any infringment. My problem was always dishonesty. He always denied having the links which became a moral problem to me after I verified he had links that paid money. Just be honest and people would have bought from him. They loved him. Good idea but bad approach.

the blow up was crazy and ITA with what everyone else posted. I also think that the admins were asking for a lot from MLife and MyVegas for the upcoming "meet up" and were declined..not sure what they were asking for since we only got one side of the story. I think they (as admins) fwere asking for stuff for setting up the big meet up like they wanted to get more comps or something in return and MyVegas/MLife either said no or with xyz strings attached which they didn't want to go with like not using the site to promote other commercial entities. The admin had a right to shut the page down if that's what he wanted to do but in the end I think he just stomped his feet since he didn't get what he wanted

Now I am still playing and gathering chips...hopefully the game continues and they don't shut it down over a few bad apples. I can't (well really I can) believe how people act when they are getting "free" things. yes, time is put in on the game but really I have nothing better to do when watching tv at night when the boys are in bed so I play the game and hopefully will get the "rewards" that I want...in the end I'm just having fun.

I just want to chime in on this.

    1) Brad and the other admins did not earn any money from affiliate links with the exception of the Slot Play ones which paid out like $2 each or something like that. If you checked his deals page, none of the offers had affiliate links on them.

I am by no means defending him, he probably deserves what he got. He banned me for having an opinion as well, and if you all didn't know, he also stole a buncha members from the original myvegas group.

    2) Brad did not have to shut down anything. All he had to do was change the group name or move the group to another one without the myVEGAS name on it. It's not simple, but with 15,000 members, the little extra effort might've been worth it.

    3) myVEGAS initially gave them the okay to use the myVEGAS name. I would imagine MGM was on their ass for these groups so they decided to enforce the terms. I mean what kind of company, who knowingly knew about a group from the very conception, would wait till they had 15k members before sending an enforcement letter. It was bad management by both parties.

    You are wrong about #1!

And #3 was because of the reasons which you are wrong about on #1. Commercial interest!

    1) I am not wrong, if you look at the links, you'll see there's no appending on any of the deals. For example, mgm you'll notice a &kbid=xxxxxxxx or something like that. If you see the links on this thread, you'll know what I mean. They only made money on the slot play coupons. Again not defending them, just like to point out facts.

    2) If you look at the letter or email or whatever it was, all Brad had to do was change their group name to something else that wasn't myVEGAS and make sure that everyone knew that they were not attached to myVEGAS, but because he's a stubborn guy, they choose their own option.

Either way, not defending him, just setting facts straight.

I used to belong to the MVFD group and I was a bit skeptical as to why someone would spend so much time running a group that they get zero monetary benefit from. I did some checking on my own and here is what I came across.

Anyone can sign up to be an affiliate for most of the Las Vegas hotels. For the MGM hotels, there is a link in the lower right corner that says "become an affiliate". If you click on it, you can sign up. It is completely free and you earn a commission for every person who books a room from your link. I went to the My Vegas friends and deals faceboook page that was linked with the MVFD fan group and heavily promoted there. I clicked on one of the hotel deal links and then the little padlock in the upper left corner. When you view the general page info, it shows the facebook page as the referring URL. This right here has convinced me that he is making money off of these links. I'm all for making money, but you shouldn't have to lie to people to do it and insist you are not making a dime off the links.

Links were/are affiliate. Contact the vendors to verify!

Yes he could have kept the group with simple changes but the only one he could do was get rid of the commercial links, which he was not willing to do!
