I first posted a couple weeks ago that my husband and I are heading to Vegas the end of September. We have both been playing My Vegas and I have enough points for a free room at the Mandalay Bay or Mirage. My only hesitation with using the points for a free room is will we get a crappy room? Right now I have reservations at the Mirage in a King Tower room. I'm assuming the free rooms are the entry level ones. In saying that, which hotel has a nicer "entry-level" room. Or should I use my points for other stuff. Unfortunately it seems that a lot of the things I'd use have dates blacked out for when we'll be there.

Most of the MGM hotel websites have virtual tours of their hotel rooms now, might be worth checking out to compare the two. Mandalay Bay's rooms were just renovated within the last year or so. The basic room bathroom is fairly large with a separate tub and shower. The room itself is also 150 sq. feet bigger compared to Mirage's Resort King Room (which is slightly different then the Resort King Tower room you currently have booked). The Resort King room is usually what you get when booking a MyVegas reward.

You can't go wrong with either room (both solid hotels). It would probably would come down to preference of location, amenities, etc.)

Just recently used a MyVegas reward at The Mirage for a free room. Upon check-in (which we tried at Noon) we were offered an early check-in (right now at Noon) and an upgrade to a high floor volcano/strip view room for like ten bucks. Hope you get that same deal. Was worth the $10 to not have to drop our bags off at the Bell desk and then tip them.

Mandalay Bay has the nicer room, but they are on opposite ends of the strip. I would stay closer to where you like to see and do things, to cut down on some of the tons of walking you'll do.

I have stayed in both recently (both free thanks to MyVegas) and I liked the MB room a bit more. The Mandalay Bay room seemed bigger, the bathroom definitely was larger, and it had a nice soaking tub, separate shower. I did no $20 tricks, just took what they gave us. If you are going to see a show or dying to go to a certain club or restaurant, I would basically just stay at the hotel that was closest to your activities. Nothing wrong with the Mirage I just liked MB more.

I like MB more for the rooms but prefer the location of Mirage. Neither casino is one of my favorites. They both have great pools, but the MB pool / beach is better. I wouldn't worry about getting a bad room at either.

I have stayed at both, they are both nice. That's the Mandalay room I was give , sorry I don't have a picture of the Mirage room. I like the location of Mirage better because I do majority of my gambling at CET properties

I honestly don't think you can go wrong with an entry level room at either property but the one at MB will be larger with a bigger bathroom. Mirage is a better location for wandering the Strip and I've been pretty lucky there but, in all honesty, I like Mandalay Bay better as the casino is more spacious and doesn't have as much foot traffic. MB almost feels like an off-strip property but is only a short walk or tram ride from Luxor/Excalibur and all the action at the corner of LV Blvd and Tropicana.

I can't comment on Mirage, but the rooms at Mandalay Bay are pretty spacious and have been remodeled. The bathrooms are really nice and the beds really comfortable. We like Mandalay Bay for a lot of reasons, but especially the pool area - it really can't be beat! Plus you can walk right through to Luxor or take the tram to Excalibur. Also there are so many restaurant choices including those in the Shoppes at Mandalay which is between Mandalay Bay and Luxor and the food court by the Convention Center.

I haven't stayed at MB (but have come close so researched), but have at Mirage.

Even entry-level rooms at Mirage are very comfy, and a great location. BUT a very small bathroom with shower/tub combo, and smaller windows in bedroom, not floor-to-ceiling. (Bathrooms are very pretty, but very tight.)

I'm pretty sure all MB rooms have separate tub and shower combos, and floor-to-ceiling windows. But, remote location.

You should be fine with either, both are nice. Probably depends on location vs. Bathroom.

(Oyster.com is great for non-doctored photos of rooms.)

    Have fun!
