Im a strip guy and know my way around the strip very well but not as much off it. On my upcoming trip in June (17nights) i will stay a couple off nights at Red Rock Casino before moving back to Aria and Cosmo.

So now im looking for some suggestions for some restaurants to eat at off the strip (were the locals eat) and im not looking for fast food or big chains. I will save the fine dining for the strip unless its a must try restaurant.

Raku, Naked Fish, Lotus of Siam and Rollin Smoke Barbeque are restaurants im going to and im also thinking of putting Bachi Burger and Carlos Kitchen on the list. Any other suggestions of must try restaurants off the strip or a solid place close to Red Rock is appreciated. Also i have a car so transportation wont be a problem.

Well, once again I get to tout Black Bear Diner, out W. Tropicana, just past Jones Blvd. intersection on the right. An old HS buddy that's lived in Vegas about 15 years took me out years back for breakfast and it's been a "must do" ever since. Yes, it's a chain/franchise, but the owner is a hands on guy that's there most mornings, greeting the locals.

Good food and reasonably priced. Check out the menu. They even have a "little less" section for light eaters.

Another vote for Hugo's Cellar... also next door is Andiamo's at The D... excellent meals at both places... their menus are online if you want to look.
    ---
After dinner, excellent gambling at both places... good choices and good odds.
    ---
If you're just wanting a snack... Golden Gate's Du Par has the famous shrimp cocktail... delicious and almost a meal in itself... their gambling is good also, plus they have dancing girls at the blackjack tables... as does The D. .

Crown and Anchor is a favorite of mine, near the corner of Tropicana/Maryland Pkwy

Not high end or anything special, just a good British Pub with authentic Fish & Chips

There is a really great spot called Sedona I often go to that is on the way to Red Rock - if you take Flamingo all the way up it is on the right, and then you can just jump on the highway right past Sedona for short ride up to Red Rock. Oh, and the bread pudding there is AMAZING:

Firefly! Its off the strip on Paradise Rd not too far from the strip. Its a great spanish tapas place, great food, atmosphere is awesome. Locals love the place and the Sangria pitchers are amazing and I usually don't drink that type of drink. Well worth the short cab ride.

I love BBQ, and am going to try a place called Rollin' Smoke when I am in town next week. It is just a little north of the strip off I15. It was recommended in an old thread here, and it has 4.5 stars on yelp.

Never been there, but it's a "must try" for me....

Fogo De Chao and Texas De Brazil (same) mainly if you've never been to a Brazilian churrascaria.

Fogo is a chain that grown from 4 when I went to maybe 20 in America.
Texas De Brazil, in a similar situation, is growing (funny enough one opening in DC soon).

Highly recommended although you must like a lot of meat.

Go to the Trip Report Forum and do a search for threads started by "westie", more specifically the trips he takes.
The man gets around to off-Strip food joints as much as anybody here and he knows the bargains.

We tried Marrakech on Paradise due to a recommendation on this site. It was great. We had a great meal and good time watching the belly dancer perform. She even got my mother in law up to dance with her.

Be sure you are really hungry when you go. We were half way through the courses and already full. Next time we will know better.

Watching the sunset from the Top of the World in the Stratosphere while enjoying a leasurely meal is a great experience if you haven't done it. Best to go as a couple as it is quite nice.

A second on firefly....I really miss their plaza location.

If you want mafia/goodfellas style, battistas or casa de amore for the real Vegas cheez.

How about golden steer? Killer old school steak joint!

I once went to a really old traditional Japanese/sushi joint west of the 15... South of palace station....they had the tables you kneel down at. Damn if I can remember what it was called....

Edit: The place is called osaka, and it's on west Sahara blvd
