Looking at a solo trip in early december for 5 nights. The better half doesn't like to stay downtown but I prefer dt & this would be a golden opportunity to stay there. I really like to gamble & eat at these 2 properties but can't decide on which one is best for me. Have never stayed at either.
For the nights in question, cal is $220 & mss is $280. Is the mss really worth $60 more as they are connected to each other?
Room size is not important to me as it is a solo trip. A clean & quiet room is important.
Also, I like to visit the sportsbook on football gamedays. I know the cal's book is tiny as I have placed bets there before. Does anyone know if I will be able to get a seat in there on gamedays? The shuttle to sam's town may be an option as well. It appears that sam's has a nice sized book judging from the pics I have seen online. Has anyone ever visited sam's book on gamedays?
I realize this is a lot of questions. Thank you in advance.

I'd choose the Cal because of the price and the location, West Tower. Easy to gamble at Main Street and the Cal and vliser to Fremont Street.

Sam's twon race and sports book

A large facility with plenty of seats. Drink service is excellent. They always have enough clerks on duty to handle the action. Lots of horse action and of course college and pro football. NO drink ticket nonsense. The time I was there was two years ago and I've made numerous trips there in the past. I think you might enjoy the facility.

Both are nice enough and connected.

As mentioned Cal is closer, but further from Boar's Head at Main Street which is my preferred method of getting hammered while hammering away at video poker.

Cal seems a little quieter, but the hum of the air conditioning is enough "white noise" for me to ignore the trains some people complain about.

Pick one and enjoy. If $60 makes a difference psychologically or financially go with the cheaper.

Thanks everyone. I think I'm gonna go with the cal.
As far as football saturday & sunday, I'm going to try Sams. I make several bets each day & have always detested the drink ticket system.

We just got back from our first stay at the Cal. It wasn't terrible but we liked Main Street better.

Elevators are scarce and crowded. People pile in because they don't want to keep waiting.

Room looked a bit tired (although we were in west wing which is supposed to be better)

I called housekeeping asking for a coffee maker. (At Main Street they will bring you one). Three times we were told they would look for one. Then the next time I called I was told to call the front desk. I did this and was informed that coffee makers were only for the suites. I felt like I'd been "put in my place"

So all in all it wasn't that bad but not that great. Not complaining too much as we were comped.

I'd rate Golden Nugget best (from my experience) for rooms, Main Street second for rooms but better for gambling.
