I'm staying at the Monte Carlo this weekend for 3 nights (Sunday to Wed.). I have a Deluxe room, which is fine because I'm rarely in the room. I was wondering if anyone has ever tipped the front desk for "perks" other than a room upgrade?

I was thinking either for passes to Diablo (free cover) or something at the pool? I've read all about tipping for room upgrades, but not for other things. Just curious if anyone could weigh in, and if I should try to ask for anything specific?

I have not, but here's my suggestion. Fold your tip and hand it to the attendant with your credit card. Ask is "there were any comps that he/she could help with, such as . . . . ". If they can't they should return your tip with an I'm sorry.

I think the reason you see tipping the front desk discussed in the context of room upgrades is because that's what they have access to and it's sort of unclear what other things (i.e. passes to the club or pool stuff) they may also have access to...but you'll never know unless you try! I think dailun's advice is sound. Good luck!
