Wife and I are going to celebrate 30th anniversary next year. I was born in France (Dad was stationed there). My bucket list has always had me wanting to go back to see where I was born, since I left at 3 years old. I have been on the VMB site for a few years now and never seem to remember any mention of Monaco for a vacation/gamble destination.
We were thinking of flying into Paris and then take the Euro Train to Monte Carlo for a few days. So My questions are has anyone tried this before, or have been to Monte Carlo ? Just wondering if Monte Carlo is over-hyped and or overpriced and we should look to another desination.

    Mike,

I live in London and have been to Monaco a few times and it is crazy expensive, even compared to here. Hotels, food, drink are all overpriced, but the place is populated wall to wall by multi millionaires, so they don't necessarily feel the sting of a beer which costs the equivalent of $15 - $20. Having said that, the place is beautiful and they have some really nice hotels that reek of classic, old world elegance. As for the casino, it has a classic feel to it, of course, but I would say that it is a little less well maintained than the hotels of similar vintage.

Went there on a day trip on a European cruise. Took the train in for a day from somewhere in France. Took a tour of the Palace, went to the Casino ,looked around ,that was pretty much it.
Beautiful place, but you can see 1 sq. mile in a day. My suggestion would be to stay somewhere along the French Riviera and go to Monaco for a daytrip.
