We had to change up our plans and days just a tad for our trip and now we will be spending our first night in vegas before going to hoover dam & Grand Canyon (then back to vegas). We will be staying at excal and tropicana when we go back.

For the overall experience which one would be a better pick??

By the time we get in, luggage and car it will be after 5, then we gotta do a supplies run so maybe 7 by the time we get checked in. Pool is closed at that time (not sure why they close so early in vegas) so maybe would get to the pool in the am but not for sure and will check out at 11.

As we are only there for the night we will probably stick close to the hotel and explore las vegas when we get back but will explore the hotel.

I know we still have a ways to go but i like to have my mind made up way in advance (am a major planner) then it is one less thing i think about.

I would just go with the cheaper place. You're there less than twenty-four hours and they are right next to one another, so you can always walk to the same stuff from either hotel. I like the food at Monte Carlo better, and it has a better pool (if you have time in the morning), but really I would just go with the cheapest. Sounds like you're really just looking to a place to lay down until your trip the next morning

I'd go with the cheapest, as well. All other things being equal, MC has a much better range of food options, particularly if you're getting in a little late. It'll save hiking somewhere else to eat. Plus, MC is connected via a tram to City Center + Bellagio, so if you want to explore, it's a bit more efficient.

will be a comp either way. I like the look of new york new york but a lot of people here seem to prefer monte carlo. I might try that one, can walk around NYNY to check it out later.
