I would appreciate input on these 2 resorts. What are your views on:
    Rooms
    Casino
Inexpensive eating (ie. Subway, Micky D's)
    Getting to other resorts
Smoke - Not bad, Not good, need a gas mask?
    Thanks all.

Overall, I would go with Monte Carlo, the hotel seems nicer/cleaner to me. They also have a much better parking garage if you are driving.
They both have a food court and McDonalds but i think only Monte Carlo has subway.

Smoke level seems to be about the same to me.

Monte Carlo is much closer to other casinos. you can walk easily to NYNY and MGM. And you can probably walk to cosmopolitan and PH. Monte Carlo is also connected to aria.

There is a free tram going to bellagio from Monte Carlo as well.

Monte Carlo outranks Luxor in all areas, except price.

    Monte Carlo.

I have stayed at both. The Luxor is fine, but I like MC better. Here are a few areas I put the checkmark at for Monte Carlo

    1) Better Poker room
    2) Better Sportsbook
    3) Brew Pub onsite
    4) Better Location + Monorail to Aria & Bellagio
    5) More laid back Casino
    6) Nicer Rooms (especially comparing the ones in the Pyramid)

Luxor does have Carrot Top and it's a very good show.

Although I find the properties similar, I too am a bigger fan of Monte Carlo over Luxor. The big thing for me is location, much closer to getting to other properties if that's your thing throughout your stay.

In my opinion, MC is superior in each of those categories. Plus, it has a better pool, better spa (although neither are spectacular), and better fine dining. The only ways Luxor is superior is that it is more fun to walk around in and view the theme/architecture of the hotel itself and it has slightly better/more fun bars

I like the Luxor because you have easy access to Mandalay Bay and all the dining there

I stayed at Luxor in March, in a tower room. It was GREAT. The rooms are nice, slightly updated, they do have flat screens, it's still tacky egyptian, but it was nice. The bathrooms have large tubs and showers. Also they have a full food court, easy access to Excalibur (which has an even better, brand new food court) and Mandalay Bay. I think the casino is nice, but it's a plus to have access to Mandalay's (to me at least, that's my favorite casino.) They also have great shows Carrot Top is the best show in Vegas!! I had a great meal at Tender steakhouse last week and it was yummy! Also the resort it fairly small, it's easy to get around. I'd say the negative would be the pyramid rooms, they are old and outdated and awkwardly shaped. Make sure you go with the tower room. Also if you are walking the location isn't great.

I stayed at Monte Carlo a few years ago, honestly, it's boring, they have nothing to offer. It was fine, and clean and all, but nothing exciting. I didn't care for the casino there, just no action going on.. It's biggest feature is being connected to CityCenter by tram. I'm pretty sure people stay there for that reason. Also there is lots of construction at Monte Carlo right now, that could be annoying...

For me it would come down to price most likely, but after staying at Luxor this year, I'd personally go with Luxor, because I'm very fond of Mandalay Bay and I liked having the easy access. If Monte Carlo is a lot less money though, certainly go with that.

Rooms - only stayed at Luxor once for the first trip. If this was a first trip I would definitely pick Luxor over MC. If this is like your 5 trip or so then pick MC over Luxor.

Casino - Luxor is larger but usually higher limits on table games. MC does have plenty of $5 tables and they have some of the older slot machines which I like to play. They do have newer ones as well.

Inexpensive eating (ie. Subway, Micky D's) - in house MC wins, but for selection Luxor wins because it is connected to Excalibur and MB as well as the mall between the two for plenty of options.

Getting to other resorts - can't beat Luxor if you are only sticking with MB and Excalibur. But if you plan to be walking the strip every day then stick with MC for its location.

You didn't mention when? Monte Carlo is one huge construction mess right now.

It looks like the trip will be in Oct. or Nov. Hope the darn airfares drop a bit or it might not happen at all.

Construction will begin on the outdoor experiences at New York-New York and Monte Carlo in the coming weeks, with anticipated completion in early 2014.

So be prepared to be inconvenienced at some point during our stay...LOL I was going to ask for a strip view but maybe i should ask for a view of the mountains instead. Is Monte Carlo attached to another property? i can't remember if we can walk north from the inside or not.

To me, the Monte Carlo casino had all the atmosphere of a casino in Forkville, Oklahoma. I didn't enjoy gaming there one bit, and the blackjack dealers seemed to be robots. I far prefer the Luxor, NYNY, Excalibur, Mandalay Bay group.

Luxor has a good buffet, the great Tacos Y Tequilla, as well as good dining at Mandalay as well as cheap dining at Excalibur.

I have never had a Vegas trip that did not include some sort of construction and every time i say i am going to avoid so and so and then end up walking through or staying at the place being worked on...LOL If anything it will give me something to take pics of and talk about in my TR...I let the little things bother me last time and it made for a not so great trip, so this time it's eh, whatever. I am going to roll with it.:beer:

Monte Carlo, hands down. Luxor was a huge disappointment.

Another one of those loaded questions as it is heavily skewed by demographics. So depending on your age, your tastes, your budget things will be different.

I personally as a 25 year old law student much prefer Luxor over Monte Carlo.

Monte Carlo does have nicer rooms and a little more "sophisticated" feeling. But that's where it stops for me. The rooms are more affordable at Luxor and I'd rather spend my money on gambling than a room, thankfully my room is often comped so I don't have to worry about that. Next, I have never and I mean NEVER been able to get onto a craps table at MC, in my 5 trips to Vegas I have tried to play craps at MC about 6-8 times now and every time there has only been 1 table open and it is packed to the gills. The Luxor however always has at least 2 tables going. As for table limits, I don't do $5 tables anyways because it takes forever to try and win anything worth while. Also club and nightlife is virtually non-existent at MC while at least somewhat relevant at Luxor.

So again it comes down to who you are and what you like. For me the Luxor wins hands down for value, nightlife and most importantly availability of/access to table games.
